Albeit maybe just a bad game but I don't see any improvements in his game, that attempt at running with the ball was really club level. Can't believe the money spent on him.

Give him a break!! Hes only had two games with a new team!!! Seems to be an agenda against him even before hes had a run of games with a new team.

Made runs today and in that first half was not passed.

Very easy to focus on what he didn't do but lets look at what didn't happen from the basics around him, the players service was shite.

Yes, we were imprecise with key passes. A common failing in our game. Perhaps we were even worse than is often the case because Kante and Jorgi were both very poor in the passing game today. Beneath all of that however it is still possible to judge how Rom did individually. My own view is that more of his limitations were on show this week than had been the case last week. This changes nothing however. It's unrealistic to hope that Romelu can be at his best every week.

I'm not a believer. I would not have signed Rom but I do believe he will score the goals to help us amass more points than last season and that is his primary function.

I think the question of whether Romelu has a good game or a bad one comes down to the number of opportunities he has to do the things he's good at vs the number of times he's required to try to do things he is not good at. In other words we have to find ways to get the best out of him. Trying to pretend to ourselves that Rom can become something he is not would be foolishness. There will be many better days than today for Rom.

I think it's important that people like you and I should not latch on to each and every piece of poor play and use it as a chance to demonstrate our confirmation bias. We gain nothing if Romelu fails. Every footballer has better days and less good days.

Exactly. I never expected from Rom to make 3 assists for goals which he could easily have.

Same for Mount. He had golden opportunity and if he pass to Kai it would be 0:2 but it is not natural to expect this from them considering their past which is bang average. I feel sorry for Kai to play with those two. Without them it would be 0:6 against Arsenal and 0:3 against Liverpool first half.

Him, Kai and Mount appear to be often unwilling or unable to pick the right moment and pass

So many great counter attack opps not played out properly today

if we could capitalize more on those we would be by far the best team in the world

Few weeks hopefully that irons out.

But you can see how the two tens will play off Lukaku, particularly in big games. He wasn’t always involved yesterday but his movement free’d up Kai and Mason, who got some good positions that on another day they’d do more in.

Rom also showed he could roll van Dijk and Matip despite the whole ‘VVD is not Pablo Mari’ point. He is the real deal, even if he is not Haaland or Mbappe. Give him a few more games and I think he will easily go on a run of scoring.

In a few weeks time, when fully integrated and he has enough match rhythm, I think that front 3 has huge potential to be very impactful on games.

I will say that if anyone has watched the Bundesliga this season so far, yes few games in, but the defense and organisation of majority of teams is shambolic. Rom did what I expected yesterday, as TT rightfully said, it spoiled the game, this was supposed to be our stress test, though it was in a way in terms of our mentality, I wanted to know where we were and how far we'd come, even early on in the season. Big games weren't our achilles last season under TT, as we all know, it was the smaller teams, but I still wanted to see what is happening on the training ground to game translation for Rom/Mount/Kai - It was evident that it needs work, but the link up was there, its that last step and decisiveness that needs to come. I said in the match thread yesterday we shit ourselves when we get to the 16 yard box and often take the wrong option when presented with two or three.

~Edit~ Off topic, but I totally agree with Gary Nev on Kai, once he fills out his frame he would be devastating playing up with Rom. I doubt he does that whilst Rom is here though, in truth.

That pass by Rom to Kovacic after a hold-up was sweet though. Should have been an assist with anybody but Kova, who can't score to save his life. Thought Rom had a good (not great) game considering the circumstances. I see lots of potential there once he and the team get more used to each other.

That was a good move by him. There also a half-volley combining with Alonso in the second.

My criticism is that that's not the norm. His norm with the ball at his feet is not impressive, and seems to stumble more at pace than he should. All in all, he's what he is and we fully knew that before signing him. he will score goals due his pace and power, but I still hope he's managed correctly.

No, he did not have a great game against Pool. Yes, there were times he could have received an early pass, but in others, when he did receive the pass, he wasn't great... lost the ball cheaply or made the wrong pass.

I hope we arent going back to blaming the entire squad because our most expensive transfer hasnt scored.

People are finding justification in anything he does and blaming others in the team yet when any other squad member doesnt do his job they get cancelled!

Its just simply too early to call much right now, He def offers us a new outlet and the ref should be demoted, We played well and liverpool struggled to beat us at theirs.

onwards and upwards

Lets see where we are after 10 games

I found the game a very frustrating watch because we should have been over the hills and far away before the penalty incident. We do a lot of very good stuff but we lack precision in key moments. This is not a one off. It happens game after game. I'm not just referring to the incidents around their box in this game which have been highlighted elsewhere. We also had numerous opportunities to launch threatening attacks which were killed by lax passes. Thought Jorgi and N'Golo had poor days (or half days) on the ball. This was a game we should have won. Even with the red card.

Love the recent Chelsea video of him partaking in shooting practice with the younger lads in the squad after training.

You can see the whole mentality has changed from his earlier days. He's grown up and looks both comfortable and thriving as a leader within the dressing room.

Don't ask me why, I just get that feeling he's primed to have a huge season individually, which I think in turn will be a key contributor to any success we have this season.

Indeed.

In his interview he said as much. Tuchel has asked him to be a leader in the dressing room.

Reminds me of the time Mourinho asked Didier to be a locker loom leader when he returned in 2014.

Hope there is a similar impact.

Another good thing here is Lukaku is already joining a trophy winning squad with experience, so it should know how to respond well.

Chelsea boost as Romelu Lukaku picks up yellow card suspension

https://www.caughtoffside.com/2021/09/05/Chelsea-boost-lukaku-yellow-card/

Good news, Chelsea fans… Romelu Lukaku will NOT be travelling with the Belgium squad to face Belarus away from home.

Lukaku has enjoyed a superb international break with his country, having scored three goals in two appearances, as well as making his 100th appearance for the Red Devils.

The 28-year-old has become the headline act for both club and country. He has to be considered among the best players in the world, with Lukaku now at the absolute peak of his powers.

MORE: (Video) Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku scores with typically ruthless finish on his 100th appearance for Belgium

It’s for that reason that Thomas Tuchel will have been concerned to have had Lukaku flying to face Belarus away from home on this coming Wednesday, with Chelsea playing on the Saturday.

Tuchel is in pursuit of the Premier League title and will not want to have to leave Lukaku out of the side for the clash with Aston Villa as a result of his unfavourable conditioning or fatigue.

However, he need not worry about that any longer…
