One thing I could say to all of you...mistake two things!

1. How many matches have you watched of Perreira?

I have seen him many times in action and while he's a hard working full back who loves to join the attack and has a eye for goal, he's certainly not what we need atm.

2. If all of you guys had the ability to manage clubs it would have been great ( sarcastic). AVB has plans for Perreira, and will use him, like it or not!

Personally I am OK with this transfer, IF he plays as a winger, but at the end of the track AVB knows best.

All managers make bad decisions to varying degrees and regularity as they are only human as well. . . that makes the above argument redundant

This deal doesn't make sense for 3 reasons regardless of what role AVB has in mind for him.

1. As a back up to Cole- £16m plus is too expensive for a mere back up especially when we already have two capable back up in Betrand and PVA who are raring to go and would relish the opportunity.

2. As a LWM/F- why convert a LB into a winger when there are plethora of natural wingers/LWF out there who are more suited to that role than perreira

3. Most would agree that a creative midfielder is our most pressing need atm rather than a LB. The only player we should be looking to buy from porto is Moutinho

Whichever angle one chooses to view this issue, signing the Uruguayan seems very illogical

Now if this turns out to be true, that we are signing Perreira, I think this would be a descent formation unless offcourse we sign a CAM. AVB has already used this formation during preseason. He played Josh in that position where Mata is. 4-2-3-1

Come on ....how many time do i need to say.. HE IS A WINGER! He is a winger and a left back, i thought we all understood this already....

Boas dont need to convert him cause he played this position a lot.

And remmember that its not that AVB just want a player that he doesnt realy know, he was his player for a long season.

How? explain me how buying Perreira means Modric deal is dead?

You all got to stop with those stupid speculations.

I assume AVB will use him as a winger and that means Mata will be used in midfield. Cole is our best LB and he isn't buying Perreira for that amount of money to be a sub.

Secondly and most important, Levy won't sell. :chai:

Yes he has played in more advanced position for Uruguay but that doesn't necessarily make him a winger as he's predominately a LB and that's his best position. . . if Mata would be used in the hole then a natural and specialist winger is what we need and not him

And as for the highlighted part of your post. . . facepalm emoticon is urgently needed

I don't know if I've ever told you guys..

The chef at my work place is a huge Porto fan, so he regularly talks to me about Porto's football and such (laughing at AVB sometimes too  ). He tells me, what you've all been saying too, Perreira is very overrated for the valuation Porto has put on him.

That being said, they've only done to lure away interest. They, of course, know he's not worth that, but they don't need to sell do they?

He never played as a winger at Porto and this is the first time I heard he can play as a right back. Come on... this guy is a LB.

lionsden, Off course I meant Left-Back .

And how can you just declare we dont need him? our manager know him and wants him, so thats it for me. If we will see it was a mistake,

so ok, but dont judge him so hard before everything. Give a little respect to AVB.

Anyway, some guy(not a Chelsea fan) from another forum im visiting, know EVERYTHING about Porto and Portuguese football, and i just read a post that he made about Alvaro Perrira becuase of our interest, here is the translation for that: (sorry if there will be some mistakes, Google translate... most of it)

"He never stops working for a moment, he's physical, determined, aggressive and fast so he fits the English League, and has a great technique and ability to create opportunities for his friends and play the games of combinations to break the defenses that you usually encounter, and would help Torres and your forwards to score and can even make your team more cooperative(its something that you really missing i think) with good wing crosses or his dribbles and runs to inside the box with his great 1-2. The defensive game its he's disadvantage when he plays left defender, then in the left winger role it will work much better and his combination with Ashley Cole on left line can be very good. Im not sure if he's a starting 11 type of player, but i think he's alot better than what you already have".

*And he's saying he doesnt worth his price, like every Porto player.

And again, the guy know realy everything about world football- South America, Europe... he know a bit too much actually... So he can be wrong about his sucsses in Cheslea, but he know this player very good thats for sure.

Sorry for this triple post... dont know what happend to it.

Guys this is not Football Manager or Xpert11... he is left back AND a LEFT WINGER. Seen so many, including myself, begging for a new left winger. That will mean Mata will be attacking midfielder. 15mil for him isn't a bad deal. Some of us moaned why don't we buy "second rate" stars and give them chance, instead of splashing 30-40mil on a player.. well Pereira is that man and he'd be a good signing.

Alvaro Pereira already 'reserved' for Chelsea

By José Carlos de Sousa

"Uruguayan was out of the game call for the Super Bowl. Battle negotiating forwards to finish with another victory of the "blues" ... snap dragons and 30 million euros.

The six days of the close of the market, just in case, stick is now reserved for Chelsea. One reason not to have been called by Vitor Pereira for the European Super Cup game tomorrow.

It left so few or no doubts about the immediate fate of Alvaro Pereira Stamford Bridge. The home of the Chelsea game, the private club of Roman Abramovich in England, businessman who is in the 50. Th (according to the prestigious Forbes magazine) the world's richest men and who simply pop a finger to remove this battle negotiating trophy in hand (with the player) e. .. FC Porto a smile."

Don't understand this myself, we clearly do not need a left back, we have that covered. Villas-Boas i believe used him as full back at Porto last season, why would he now change his thinking for a player and play him as a winger? It never really worked with Zhirkov, why would this be any different. If we want to sign another winger, then lets sign a proper winger, especially if we are talking about these large figures...

Does he though? Obviously I support him, but if he thinks Perreira is the best option available then perhaps his judgement is no better than Ancelotti's.
