I don't think that we want or more importantly need Modric. We need Frank to nail that position in front of the back four, and a world class right back. Just before I receive pelters Brana is not the long term solution there. He is wasted in that position.

It's not about who's available but rarther what we need. With the Hulk deal likely happening, do we need another forward?

As for modric, we needed him when we were planing on playing 4-3-3 which I don't see us going back to with the signings we've made. We don't need him now.

we need another forward - backup. an attacker who plays different positions eg - dembele, moses, hoilett. next season will be hectic as hell and backups will be needed and they should be better than kalouda .. de bruyne will plug the benayoun position, marin will be backup to hazard on the left. we need another player who will play forward and wing . that way lukaku can be sent on loan. lukaku on loan for a season and he will be ready i think for the 2013-14 season and this backup winger will fill the sturridge role freeing sturridge up to be played at his favored ST role

and we do need a modric-esque player in the midfield. maybe de bruyne will fit that role but our next signing should either be cabaye/moutinho or dembele/moses

I am pretty sure de bruyn will be going on loan next season so we can take him out of the equation. Let's weigh up our options for each position assuming we sing Hulk and let go of Kalou Bos Essien and Malouda:

ST: Torres, Danny, Hulk

RW: Hulk Marin Danny Rambo

CAM: Mata Hazard Raul (for extreme cases only)

LW: Hazard Ramires Marin Kakuta (I don't want him sent on loan)

CM: Mikel Romeu Lamps Raul Josh ( if not sent on another loan)

RB: Iva Hutch

CB: Terry Luiz Cahil Iva

LB: Cole Bertrand

Honestly, if we do sign Hulk, I'd only buy another RB to rotate with Iva. Modric or Anyone else would be an absolute luxury buy.

lacks creativity tbh. a kagawa or a modric instead of raul would have been perfect. now the onus is on mata to find the attackers but the problems he is an attacking position himself. this will force him to drop deep more often and we end up with only 3 genuine attackers 2 of whom will be on the wings and only one through the centre. i hope our attacks are predominantly through the centre next season as dumping in from defenders wont work without drogba

I agree but I don't see us selling Raul as much as I would love to see him go. As for the second part, I think Lamps is more than capable of finding any of the front four and playing them into space as he demonstrated best with Drogba's and Ramires' goals vs Barcelona. Mikel, btw, is just as capable of finding passes that split defenses, his long range passing is unbelievably underrated.

When Lamps needs resting we'll have to settle for Raul, although I personally would like to see Josh given a shot. The creativity will have to come from the front four. When we pay an estimate of 143mil, surely we expect them to have the quality to break down almost any defense.

My first choice RB would be Lechtsteiner, but I can't see Juve selling him. There is a serious shortage of quality RBs in the market.

We won't know that for sure until he is given a chance in the league and not just the odd carling cup match.
