We didn't learn from Man City, when, in 2014, after winning the PL, they didn't spend anything. We repeated that this year.

I hope we can learn from them and wait until the end of the season before appointing the new manager. The team's confidence is already hanging by a thread... to completely undermine any rescue operation Hiddink is heading up would be counter-productive.

Uhm, what rescue? The rescue mission is already aborted. The man did everything possible, but this team just doesn't cut it. What's the difference between finishing 8th and finishing 10th or 11th? That was it, it's time to move on and forget about it.

Jorge Sampaoli reveals he was ‘about to become’ new Chelsea manager

The former Chile coach says he had talks with the Stamford Bridge club but believes his lack of English may have counted against him.

However he reckons he could well have got the nod had current Italy coach Conte not come into the reckoning.

Sampaoli said: “Now I can say that I was really, really close to becoming the new coach of Chelsea.

“I was about to be their new coach. I had this meeting with Chelsea’s owner and he told me that I was the first option at that moment.

“But then Conte appeared and it became a competition between us it was him or me.

“Unfortunately, Chelsea have chosen Conte over me. It¹s a real shame for me, because I was so excited about coaching a Premier League club.”

The language barrier was the only thing Sampaoli was concerned about and he accepts it could have been a problem.

Speaking to Argentine radio Vorterix, he said: “The Premier League is definitely the best league in the world and I wanted to coach there. But as I said, it didn¹t happen in the end.

“I was called by Chelsea, but it won¹t happen. It was complicated from the beginning.

“I would have to motivate a group of players through communication, and I still have to speak much better in English.

“I needed some time in order to improve my English. But this kind of club doesn¹t give you that time.”

F*ck.. That's depressing if true. Would be hugely excited if it was him.

He's young though so who knows, if Conte doesn't work out he's always a option.

It's bot gonna be anything new with our club. :D

Because we are in danger of seriously falling away... ergo, the difference we are talking about is between finishing 6/7/8 as opposed to 14/15/16.

We have nothing to play for so we can announce conte imo.

The team confidence is irrelevant cos conte will start from 0 anyway.

A fair point, however my concern is that we'll just drop away unless Guus keeps the confidence going and keeps trying to get the players to fight for an unbeaten league record under him. That would at least be something to be proud of... if we can negotiate the final 9 games of the season without defeat (even if we only win two or three of them), to end the season with a 22-game unbeaten streak would be one small thing to be proud of. We really, really, really have to scrap for small things to be proud of right now, because, as champions, it is our obligation to fight for the final nine matches. If things go our way, especially as we have them both to play at the Bridge, we have a 10% chance of catching City/West Ham - especially since City will have all their eggs in the Champions League basket. There is still something to fight for. We are already the worst defending champions in Premier League history, but if we could at least get Europa League football, it is a start for Conte.

“In questo momento la nostra concentrazione massima è rivolta unicamente all’Europeo dove cercheremo con il lavoro e il sacrificio di sfruttare al meglio le nostre potenzialità.
Chi mi conosce sa che il mio impegno sarà totale.
Successivamente sento di dover tornare a fare l’allenatore in un Club avendo così la possibilità di allenare tutti i giorni.
Grazie al Presidente Tavecchio che quotidianamente mi accompagna in questa splendida avventura” - Antonio Conte

So basically, from what I understand, he's confirming that after Euro he's going to leave the NT and start working for a club again.

At this moment our focus is on the euro where we'll try with hard work and sacrifice to reach our potential.
Who knows me, knows i'll be fully committed.
After the euro, i feel i'll have to go back to manage a club, so that'll be possible for me to work everyday.
Thanks to FIGC president.

Think the more important thing is to see how Italy fare under Conte in that tournament. They haven't been entirely convincing so far.

When have Italy ever been convincing ? They litterally win titles by scoring one more than the opponent in every round.

It's in their blood, their football is tailored like that, you can't do anything about it. ( And i love their identity tbh )
