He probably sees us a a classless, rash club who constantly sacks managers and is always in the news for the wrong reasons. Add on to that the fact that we won't be in the CL next season and would need a total rebuild to suit his football and there's just no way he'd take on such a mammoth task.

He goes to City who already play attacking, fluid footbal, have unlimited funds, and will be in the CL. Easy job.

Unless Mourinho's digs about the Gardener being able to win at the club's Pep has managed has touched a nerve?

Roman Abramovich will have to change Chelsea’s transfer strategy to make Diego Simeone the club’s next permanent manager as the Argentine would demand the final say over technical director Michael Emenalo on all incoming players.

The Chelsea owner has made Simeone one of his top targets, along with Pep Guardiola, to take over at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, following last week’s decision to sack Jose Mourinho and install Guus Hiddink as caretaker manager.

Hiddink made himself popular with the Chelsea players on his first official day of working with them when he changed their Christmas plans to give them Boxing Day night with their families after the game against Watford in an attempt to improve a mood that became tense under Mourinho.

While Hiddink attempts to save Chelsea’s season, Abramovich must look for his next permanent appointment and faces a dilemma over Atlético Madrid manager Simeone, who would immediately want at least five new players to follow him as part of a Stamford Bridge rebuild.

A source close to Simeone told The Telegraph that he is extremely happy at Atlético and will only consider quitting Spain for Chelsea if all of his conditions are met. The final say over all incoming transfers would be a “non-negotiable”.

Emenalo plays a big role in Chelsea’s transfer business and Mourinho even admitted he had nothing to do with the summer signing of central defender Papy Djilobodji.

Abramovich essentially backed Emenalo over Mourinho by not signing any of the big-name outfield stars the Portuguese wanted in the summer, other than Radamel Falcao on loan, and then holding the 52-year-old to account for the abysmal Premier League title defence.

With no permanent manager at Chelsea, Emenalo will take sole charge of the club’s January transfer window plans and chase targets such as Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy and Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira.

But Simeone would not stand for any Emenalo signings in the mould of Djilobodji or Michael Hector, who was immediately loaned back to Championship club Reading.

Simeone works closely with Atlético sporting director José Luis Caminero but retains the final say and right of veto over any incoming signings and the 45-year-old would not be prepared to give that up.

That would put Abramovich in the tricky position of either having to choose between Emenalo and Simeone, or attempting to negotiate some sort of compromise that suits both parties.

If Abramovich refuses Simeone’s demands, or cannot convince Guardiola to snub Manchester City, he would turn his attention to Italy coach Antonio Conte or Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri.

Hiring Simeone would be an expensive process. The former midfielder earns £4.4  million net at Atlético and his buy-out clause, which would have to be met, is just under £15 million.

Abramovich would also have to make big funds available to Simeone, who would want the freedom to make major changes to the first-team squad.

Although he has previously shown an interest in managing in the Premier League, Simeone does not speak English.

Peter Kenyon, the former Chelsea chief executive, could play a major part in any negotiations between the Blues and Atlético, as he is an official adviser to the Spanish club’s board.

Hiddink held a low-key first full training session yesterday, as he discussed the remaining targets for the season in a 3pm team meeting and then put the Chelsea squad through their paces with assistants Steve Holland and Eddie Newton. After Watford, Chelsea face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Dec 28.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Vitesse Arnhem have been cleared of having an improper relationship by the Dutch football association.

The independent probe established no undue influence by Chelsea over the Dutch club, to whom they have been regularly loaning players over the past five years, following allegations by former owner Merab Jordania that Chelsea heavily influenced policy at the club.

You pick the coach based on who fits the philosophy of the club don't you? Either that or you allow him to define it himself (in the way Wenger was allowed to).

So here's the question - who defines this club's philosophy? You've defended Emenalo in the other thread and you've praised the purchases made (logic would dictate that the vast majority of signings would be done to service the style of football the team played wouldn't it, otherwise you're just buying appreciating assets which is scattergun and wasting a massive scouting network). Is it him?

Regardless of who picks the philosophy or whatever, the next manager has to be the right one that fits whatever direction the club want to go. Ideally it would be Pep but again I don't think Pep will come here, I feel his style has also gotten to the point where even at Bayern they are starting to regress slightly which has me worrying. Mourinho was never going to have us playing brilliant attacking football, even with the squad we have, anyone who thought we'd be able to maintain the style from the first 12 games of last season has to be serious it was Jose in charge, it wouldn't last. The last few years the recruitment has been good, Emenalo has been a big part of that, obviously they had a bigger picture for Chelsea regarding the style and philosophy but Mourinho was never going to have his team playing that overly expansive football week in week out, its just not his forte, they wouldn't be exactly on the same page.

Based on what many people - players and staff - that worked with Pep brought to the public, he's simply a snake.

With all the top managers having their difficult moments and getting the sack or just staying at a club 3 years max you have to respect Alex Ferguson for the success and longevity he had with Man Utd as much as I dislike his personality and club.

Wow, there are leaks from Chilean federation, not less than earnings of their coaches and Jorge Sampaoli, someone who is highly regarded by many, is earning mere 59,000 $ a month, which is less than 0,5m£ a year.

I really like the way he put it in the end when supposedly Pep said that the first and second third were his job and make the ball reach the final third and that his (Henry's) as the striker was to finish. perfect philosophy.

About subbing him out for moving out once... well, that's the Pep we all know and may not love. He's so damn arrogant, inflexible and just unbearable, that he doesn't care. He's a dictator, follow his instructions or get out. I don't like this approach. It's great to have a plan and stick to it as much as possible, but at all times? Utopia and dictatorship.

On another note, I don't really want Simeone here. I don't get it, if they want this all-attacking football, why do they keep targeting managers with a more defensive approach as long time options? It seems like this board can't think straight or all this talk we've heard that the club wants to move to an attacking philosophy is BS. The last manager amongst the big ones to turn a team into an attacking bomb is Simeone... smh
