I don’t think some people remember how bad the start of the season we had under Tuchel was. Top 4 looked bleak, getting out of our group in CL looked iffy, no one seemed happy in the locker room, etc. We had been poor for a long time dating back to last season under TT.

Give Potter some time. No one is going to miraculously make our midfield better which is our biggest issue. At least we have a punchers chance to make top 4 and maybe make a nice run in the CL. We were never PL contenders going into this season. Still too many glaring needs on the roster.

You are correct and there is a huge problem with the way we play going forward. Watching Chelsea week in and week out has felt like I'm doing community service for years now.

well squad is enough to get 4th place but no way we can challenge for the title

too many mistakes we made in the last couple of years

smashing insane amount of money for average players killed us

and its better make a statue from tuchel cuz we winning that champions league was a miracle. upgraded our status in european football in a way we couldn't imagine. if we don't won that title our status would below that are now

very lucky to won that champions league when nobody hoping for that

There's nobody and I mean nobody believed or believes that we have or had a chance of the title.

What i think is that we have a chance of finishing in the top 4, and maybe a chance of a cup, we're not even into the first third of the season and ppl on here and elsewhere are writing us off.

After our last 3 FA Cup finals not sure about our chance of a cup...or maybe we can break that spell of not getting the win

top 4 yep fighting for that but title was never a chance.

Sad state of affairs when Man Utd are trouncing you in the middle of the park. Seems like not that long ago that midfield was probably our strongest area, now it is clearly our weakest.

To be fair if Kante, Kovacic and Jorginho are all fit we have a very strong midfield, albeit lacking goal scoring. Feels like this crisis is a result of so many other crisis - this was always obviously going to become a problem, but it was never at the top of the priority list, or even close.

Annoying. We weren't great tbh, especially first half. Improve second half. Auba should have come off for Broja imo earlier. He did not have much chances but he did not help with the press. Chalobah was brilliant though. Has been putting in consistent performances regularly now. Brilliant game he had. Happy that Arsenal dropped points finally. Made me a bit happier this wekend.

To be fair, Brentford were also poor today.

Just another one of those sides that raise their game when we play them, doing team huddles before the match begins and do their damndest to not lose. Just like Leeds earlier this season.

But we do not exactly  instill  fear either . We tend do really poorly against teams who play with intensity be it pressing us high or sitting back deep defending doggedly. We seldom blow teams off the pitch like we used to. In contrast,  teams see City rolling in with Haaland and they are shitting  themselves, City win before a ball is kicked. When they see Sterling , Cucu, K2 slouching around, they very much fancy their chances.

Against whom do we do well then ?
I think we do well against opponents who are either too weak or sort of have their mind to regain the ball and attack rather than close all the gaps.
RM was one who played like that and we scored four against them.
Essentially we seem to lack players who can open defenses with individual efforts, like Eden when he was playing for us.
Sometimes a set piece favours as -like with Koulibaly against Spurs- but that does n't happen every time.

Cucurella at LCB experiment has to stop. Better off playing Koulibaly there.

Cucurellas sole purpose is to deputize for Chillwell to keep him fresh

Not going to lie but Koulibaly has been pretty awful for us so not so sure its as easy a fix as changing Cucurella out for him.

I dont think its a case they raised their game so much. We played poorly. Play poor and don't take chances then nothing happens. We had majority of the ball, majority of the shots and as has been the case recently can't create anything.

We had 5 shots on target..no goals. Villa had 11 on target no wonder they managed to get something from those

I guess my point is that a side doesn't play the way they did against us,and then go on to lose badly playing the same way
