Taking us into the shit wilderness for a couple of years so beloved of North London club ownership - then slowly improving to make the owners appear credible. Fuck that

Just baffling. A club that finished top 4 needs to look at a midtable club to learn how to get into top 4.

Especially as we look set for 11th or 10th as things stand...

Yep - The LA dodgers have had a young coach for 6 years + now. But you can afford to do that in baseball

Contradicting info in the press today. Matt Law saying Leeds and Dortmund games are do or die for Potter

Guardian saying Potter has time regardless of results in the next two.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the latter. Let's face it. If it hasn't happened now, then it's not happening unless something drastic happens, i.e. we actually end up in the relegation zone.

And by law of averages, we are likely to get a win in one of the coming 3 games. Even miserable Southampton got a win. All it takes is a clean sheet (which I think his teams can manage) and a random Havertz goal.

And that's what will convince the owners to persist with Potter for several more games.

Rumours of Luis Enrique....

Would he be any good?

His Spain team in the last Euros was really good. They were comfortably the better side in the semifinal vs Italy but ended up losing on penalties

It's easy to say he'll be given more time and patience, but you get the distinct impression that this won't just simmer for long with Chelsea fans and the longer this run lasts and Potter stays in a job, that frustration and anger will eventually move beyond him and over to the board. That then changes the whole complexion of this scenario in my opinion.

To be honest just losing to Leeds will send it there I think, but lose the next two, at home, and I think the crowd will turn beyond Potter and that suddenly cranks the pressure up on the ownership. For example, it wouldn't be a good look at all for them if there starts to be noticeable chants and calls for Roman Abramovich whilst they're sat in the stands at one of these next two.

I would have thought the pathetic loss to Southampton at home would have been enough to push the trigger

I'm interested to see whether the players actually turn up against Leeds/Dortmund and save Potter or whether they continue to jog around the pitch with zero intent to actually score a goal.

I think that game was probably the tipping point for most people willing to give Potter some time.

It certainly was for me because it was such a backwards step. At least against West Ham and Dortmund there were signs that some pieces of attacking play were developing and some decent chances created and it felt that there was at least some progress but the last two games have completely killed that, and we can't forever keep taking a step forward, then 2 or 3 back.

With the Spurs loss on top of this now, I think things could get toxic within the Bridge if we don't beat Leeds, who like Spurs are just a thoroughly disliked rival.

Ultimately though, I'd much rather see us go and win the next two regardless of whether that creates a stay of execution. My biggest concern is if this form continues much longer we'll find ourselves inching closer to a relegation scrap, but if we can get a couple of results to stabilise, my preference would actually to be just to stick with Potter until the end of the season and move him on then and have the time to properly plan then for an appointment.

Better to get rid now and appoint a caretaker until the summer surely. Just someone who can motivate them at least

But realistically who is going to take the job on until the end of the season in a caretaker capacity? There isn't a "go-to" option like Roman had a couple of times with Hiddink and we no longer have a realistic in house option either like we had in previous times with Di Matteo, or even Zola if the club had sacked Sarri when he was struggling.

Besides one or two, the whole staff came in with Potter.

That's why I'd much prefer these decisions to be made in the summer without the backdrop of panic or pressure, but in order for that to happen, we have to pick a couple of results up over the next couple of games.
