killer1257 3,282
Just forget about Rice and go for Zakaria instead.I am pretty sure we will still go for Rice just because he is English. There are far better and cheaper options than Rice, but there were also far better and cheaper options than Chillwell out there and it did not stop Lampard to make Chilli the second most expensive LB of all time.We just have to accept that. An English coach will love to buy English players. Gesendet von meinem VOG-L29 mit Tapatalk Supermonkey92
Strike 7,527
I don't mind missing out on Rice this year. Too many changes in one year. He can continue at West Ham and club can take a call in a year when his value will have decreased and Jorgi/Kante will be sold. kellzfresh, killer1257 and King Kai

Bens not the strongest defender. I know all our CBs give me palpatations. We need much stronger defence.

With a bunch of young English players in the squad already (Tammy, CHO, Mount, Chillwell, James, Tomori) a guy like Rice would fit in the group perfectly both on and off the pitch. For Rice being a member of the Chelsea first squad is his lifelong dream and he'd give everything for the shirt but for a player like Zakaria it would most likely be just another job. Don't know about you but I give some extra value to players who passionately want to play for the club, even if they cost a little more than some other option. That little bit of extra motivation can go a long way in tight situations and they're also way less likely to agitate a move elsewhere if they reach their full potential and become good enough to be starters for the likes of Barca, Real, Bayern etc. And I wouldn't say there were 'far better' options for Chillwell. Cheaper definitely, but not necessarily better. Same goes for Rice, I don't think the other alternatives are miles ahead in their ability. Zakaria is two years ahead in his development though (23yo vs Rice 21yo). mkh

If Thiago Silva was brought in as a leader to help guide our younger defenders, then it makes sense to keep Tomori at the club. And I expect the defense to be generally better this year with a better attack in front of them. In most games, scoring a goal simply changes the tasks a defense has to do and too many times last season, the team was unable to get the goals or put themselves in a situation where they were chasing games and the defense got caught out trying to play up. For WHATEVER reason tho FL doesnt trust Tomori and seems hes off to Everton.. So IF Thiago is out we are back to our awful CBs so we will be having a open door to teams just throwing goals in. Thats unless Mendy is everything Kepa isn't. But either way we need another TOP CB I want Rice as DM but Id be happy with him best to Thiago

This is an interesting one. Tomori was Derby's player of the year under Lampard and he had a good first half of the season last year but all of a sudden he disappeared completely. Sure he was injured for a bit but that doesn't explain why he never got another chance after recovering when all the other CBs were playing horribly every week too. Especially when FL sticks Rudi on outside of a back 3! WTF is he smoking sometime? You telling me he couldnt give him 10 mins in a game here n there? I think FL gets stubborn tho. In all seriousness, Rice is not worth the money and no amount of him wanting to play here justifies such a valuation. killer1257

I saw last night in sky sports that the previous 4 transfer windows our net spend is the highest at 302M,udt 255M, city 226M, spurs 186M and arsenal 173........pool 23M. Totally not what we have seen previous days....so what is going on? Is sky on drugs again?

Those figures weren't wrong but were highly selective to make Liverpool look good because they have barely spent in the last 4 windows. All their spending came before that.
