Yeah but whichever way you look at it we're still dependent on a wing back from either side being capable and comfortable playing in the back 3 to provide cover as if the incomings and outgoings take shape as being reported we'll have 5 centre backs at the club in a back 3 system and one of those will be 38 years old.

And we did be fvcked if 2 out of the 5 cbs gets injured or suspended. For we only have Kk, Chalobah, Thiago as certainty for next season. I did prefer we keep Colwil and Ampadu in the squad mainly for rotation and cup games.

Where did I say do not buy him?

Neither Hakimi nor Theo are available, and Raum is off the board.

I would rather buy Maxwel Cornet though for LWB/RW

around £25m less and more versatile

I also still rate Borna Sosa as well

I am not alone:

Manchester City To Focus On Borna Sosa If Marc Cucurella Deal Falls Through

finally, there are Filip Kostic and Robin Gosens as well

but I will certainly not lose my mind if we buy Cucurella

he is just really expensive for very little goal/assist production (unlike ALL of my other names)

Cucurella is like Lionel Messi of defence or our kante ,very fast he is everywhere

Cornet  was really good at Lyon and is a great athlete. Would not mind him at all. Pl proven as well. Borna sosa would be a gamble. I like his technique and attacking drive. Better than Raum imo. But not as fast. Sosa is a deluxe version of Alonso. Which is not bad at all.

My feeling is we go for Cucurella bc he is the best defender out of those . Not sure if that is the correct strategy given we lack goals but we will see what cucu does with better players around him.

personally I find all of maehle, cornet, sosa, Raum more exciting (and relatively much  better deals)  than Cucurella, still I am ok with that dwarf

Joakim Mæhle for RWB depth I am fine with, and will not cost a tonne, unlike Matty Cash or James Justin

also, there is

Ridle Baku (can also play winger, like Cornet)

Who is Ridle Baku, Wolfsburg's right-back called up for Germany? | Bundesliga

Ridle Baku won't reveal what happened with Bayern Munich, has big plans for future - Bavarian Football Works

What is annoying about Dumfries, Cucurella etc. is that they were bought for cheap a year ago, played one so-so season in a better league and now we are quoted 3x the price. They are basically still the same player and were  available last year when we already needed wb cover. We should have bought them back then ffs. Serious doubts over our scouting department.

Baku is talented but has been badly out of form for months now. Doubt we would go in for him in such  negative momentum

Hop aboard the train mate.

It's my biggest gripe with the Chelsea set up over recent seasons.

That 2012 - 2014 period where we bought the likes of Courtois, De Bruyne, Salah, Lukaku, Hazard, Oscar, Azpilicueta should have offered a blueprint as all of those players went on to success whether here or elsewhere.

Instead whether through incompetent scouting or a change in recruitment planning, we moved away from this and would seem to rather see a player move to a next tier club first and prove their worth and pay the extra instead of taking a punt on a player for 2 or 3x less money but a less developed version of that player that needs time and patience. But even in the second scenario, a player could be loaned out for a year or two for that development like Courtois, De Bruyne and Lukaku all did so it shouldn't be a deterrent.

I'm really hoping it's something the new ownership consider moving forward. They strike me as the sort of people that would be questioning why some of these players we're looking to buy have made moves in the last couple of years for a fraction of the price and will want to try and address that situation by positioning Chelsea to identify these players and try to recruit them earlier.

Emerson and Alonso will leave.

Cucurella is cover for LWB/LCB and RLC is cover for RWB hence why we target left side instead of right side. We already have the cover for the right side in the team.

James can cover for RCB if needed also.

What is worse... is that we were genuinely looking at him before he went to Brighton too.
