LONDON, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion, according to media reports on Sunday which said the fee would be a British record.

Sky Sports reported that Chelsea will pay 115 million pounds ($145.98 million), eclipsing the previous mark set when they bought Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for 106.8 million in January.

It added that Caicedo would sign an eight-year contract, with the Blues paying 100 million plus 15 million in add-ons.

Chelsea had to increase their bid for Caicedo several times but eventually clinched a deal after Liverpool had also reached an agreement with Brighton reported at 111 million pounds.

The 21-year-old Caicedo still had four years to run on his Brighton contract but told the club he wished to leave and made it clear he wanted to go to Stamford Bridge rather than Anfield.

He signed for Brighton in February 2021 for a reported fee of 4.5 million pounds ($5.71 million) and was loaned to Belgian club Beerschot in August that year.

He was recalled by Brighton in January 2022 after 14 appearances in Belgium. Under coach Roberto De Zerbi, Caicedo blossomed in midfield last season.

Chelsea are also looking to strengthen their forward line under new boss Mauricio Pochettino after suffering injuries and key departures including Kai Havertz who signed for Arsenal and Christian Pulisic who left for Serie A side AC Milan.

The club's new French striker Christopher Nkunku, brought in for around 60 million pounds ($76.16 million), will be out for a "prolonged period" after having surgery on a knee injury. Chelsea, who finished 12th last season, began their Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool on Sunday.

Is there not an alternative to Olise we could sign that can actually contribute straight away and who we don’t have to wait for for months? Other than Kudus, I mean. Is there a goal scoring right sided attacker we could get for a reasonable fee?

Even if Olise was ready to go from day 1 I don’t think he helps our goal scoring issues.

I'm over the moon don't get me wrong... but £115m is a little insane. We need him though.. and we saw how Enzo played yesterday when allowed to go forward at will. With Lavia and Caicedo to help defensively... once clicking, will be a highly dynamic midfield.

You can't deny it... Clearlake Cap have not been fucking around.

I'm starting to think Roman really is one of the biggest Geniuses in World football.... he has left us in the hands of people who are backing this club 110%

This is such a contrast to everyone who was spewing - "They're ruining the club and can't negotiate for shit!" just a week ago.

People think 100 million dollar deals, and billion dollar turnarounds of a business happen on a whim. They are transforming the way the club runs to a more sustainable and long term model. Give them some time. We are winning some of the best young talent in the world over with our plan to come here - that should tell you enough.

There is a middle ground to everything

No they're not shit, but to say the club has the best negotiators on the planet is something else.

The fact is, Caicedo threw us a lifeline by making Chelsea his preferred choice.

Else, he would be holding a Liverpool jersey by now.

And as a result of leaving it late., we may have even had to pay over the odds. But that's in the past.

What's done is done., and it looks like he is finally ours.

We can all rest easy now as fans of the same club without having to gloat at each other.

Else we can continue to quote each other on this forum over ridiculous opinions and posts made over time. Every fan can have different opinions, and no one is right all the time.
