According to transfermarkt he played 10 games as CB last season

Cucurella played lb whenever Brighton played back four and has his played both lcb and lwb in a back 5 quite a number of times. But when he played lcb he interpreted the role quite wide and had 2 huge cbs behind him. We can only afford those shenanigans with one  fun sized cb and have to compensate at set pieces etc by playing taller players elsewhere. 
Having lost mostly tall players this window I hope if we buy another CB and/or rwb they are tall like fofana and Dumfries

Barcelona won't sign Azpilicueta, who will extend for 2 more seasons at Chelsea.

 

Azpilicueta wanted to have his future sorted before the start of PL. Barcelona asked him to wait a bit so they can solve the FFP issue with La Liga. In the end, he decided to extend at Chelsea. He has informed Xavi about it this morning.

Azpi runs the danger of damaging his legacy if stays here and performs poorly but he should definitely be allowed. He has been a great servant and deserves to see out his career here under the right conditions I.e. reduced role and salary. 
In no way should he ever play rwb again tho . And also not a back 3 with Thiago and Cucurella

So that’s probably Azpi starting as the right sided CB for the foreseeable future until we sign another CB, then. Someone who has looked past it for 18 months now. 😒

Never would’ve imagined we’d be starting the new PL season with Azpi or Chalobah as first choice players still. I guess Azpi playing at CB is slightly better than him playing wingback…

People complaining about Dave staying need to get a grip. He will fall into the Milner type role where he is a bench player and comes on for 20 mins in tough games where we need to grind out results. 

Dave is a top, top professional, can play multiple positions and is experienced. Players like that are always valuable.
