If we get Varane and keep all the guys who are performing great Azpi, Rudi, Silva, Chris. Wonder how our back 3 will look like? I think Azpi would lose starting spot (plus getting old).

If we want Varane, I would expect then at least one of the current CBs to leave. Maybe two? Including Tomori I suppose.

Maybe Zouma might be one to leave from the current guys. I think Christensen will stay now and get a new deal as when he has played centrally in the back 3 he has looked great and I think, even in a 4, Tuchel can continue aiding his progression. The clubs never going to bin Azpi seeing as he is the clubs captain and still has a tonne to offer at RCB also as well as can cover RB and LB. Players who can play 3/4 roles are always useful.

Man Utd and Chelsea both granted permission to complete Raphael Varane transfer

The Real Madrid superstar is set to be a free agent at the end of next season and Florentino Perez would rather see the World Cup winner leave for a fee

Great player, still has a few years at the top level, would be a good upgrade with no investment needed since we can offload a CB and get him for more or less same price, would also let us invest in other areas like a forward and maybe a CM.

one big problem, Manure just lost out on Konate to Poool, so they will go HARD for Varane

Konate scared me off the last 12 months or so with his injuries

Varane had a slump for a lone time, but a lot was becuase Rmos was out so much, ad he seems to have gained some form back

I still have Wesley Fofana as my first choice, but Varane now and then Fofana, in a year or 2 is also wonderful

not a lot of CB's interest me

so many have major downsides like cost and/or too many injures for too long a period

Alaba was never coming here and he is tool small for a replacement of a tall CB like Zouma

my list of acceptable ones (no real order and some are impossible)

Marquinhos
Raphaël Varane
José María Giménez    (only if AM come WAY down off that release clause madness)
Alessandro Bastoni
Edmond Tapsoba
Wesley Fofana
Caglar Söyüncü
Gianluca Mancini
Alessio Romagnoli
Evan N'Dicka
Sven Botman

Chelsea have stepped up their interest in Raphael Varane and are willing to pay €70m for the Real Madrid defender. {Mundo Deportivo}

I think this is happening. Pretty much Perez confirmed he is leaving and Varane said PL next step. Liverpool already got Konate and Kabak and Utd is apparently focused on Kounde.

go get him!!!!

he turned 28yo yesterday

so 4 to 5 peak or near peak seasons left (I do not see him being a Thiago Silva, Sergio Ramos type in terms of function at world class level deep into his 30's (and Ramos has had a tonne of injures lately)

Linked with Varane and also Kounde from Sevilla again.

I would assume we will lose Zouma and Tomori this summer then as talks are Silva will be staying as we have a 1 year extension.

We need a left footed CB though, not chasing Laporte a few seasons back was a huge error I think its crazy City have got both Dias and Laporte who are two of the best CBs in Europe and they dont even pair them up a lot. How he doesnt play for France is even crazier. Much better than Umtiti, although Umtiti is a good CB also but has regressed.

If we go to a back 4 then we will be selling for sure Tomori and a CB. You probably need 4 CBs in the squad for a back 4, so Silva, Rudi, Christensen (selling would be a mistake now I think Tuchel has put huge faith in him and hes clearly delivered) and then one of Varane/Kounde/Sule? Plus the we have Azpi who can do the role even in a 4 as he did for Spain as LCB with Lopetegui if needed as well as obviously back up at LB and playing RB.

Whoever it is must be dominant in the air as we lack height and prominent ability to attack the ball bar Rudiger and Zouma, although Silva and Christensen are capable but not as dominant in that regard.

40-50m for Varane would be a steal.

It'll be interesting to see what we do in the summer.

It looks like clubs around the continent (besides PSG) simply don't have the resources at present to make big signings and remains to be seen whether the likes of even Liverpool and United will be prepared to invest heavily. It could very well end up like last summer where we get a bit of a free run to try and get a couple of our favoured targets.

I can see Giroud leaving in the summer, so we need a striker. That has to be number one priority for me. Haaland is the obvious choice to make a play for, but if we have somewhat of a free run in the market I'd love us to slap a bid in for Kane and just see where it could lead. Levy won't want to do business with us, but if they don't get Champions League football they will be struggling financially with the new stadium and if the money was right I think they'd take it. Kane may prefer to move elsewhere as it's the most difficult move for him (besides maybe Arsenal) but ultimately if he had the choice of staying loyal to Spurs or moving to a club that is primed for him to spearhead to trophies over the next 3 or 4 years, it would be nice to put him in that position and see what he chooses.

Have been asking this, if it's not Haaland, Lukaku or even Kane, who can we realistically get?

I would take a bet on Andre Silva.

We were linked when he was at Sevilla, he’s kept improving and now has 42 goals in his last 68 games over the last 3 years.

Maybe not the biggest name but certainly an improvement on what we have. Maybe not even a top top CF but someone who has quality that would be an improvement for sure.

Apparently Dortmund, United, Atletico, Arsenal, Barca all linked with him for £35 million.

Here's the tricky thing, how many of us thought the same with Werner last year?

Are we sure that Silva will be a guaranteed success? Because I could also point out Werner's numbers over the last few years.
