Many great players flopped in Italy but turned out great in the PL. Coutinho, Henry come to my mind. What if Barbosa is one on them? It's cheep so it's a low risk. And can't be any worse than Michy.

He is 23 only.. Ok, he failed at Inter(which was a complete mess by that time) when he was 20, but I saw him winning the Copa Libertadores for Flamengo by scoring a brace in the injury time, he looked great.

He had a very good tournament, but him along with the entire Flamengo side were dreadful in the final.

I'm still keen on the signing and throwing Giroud/Alonso would lower the risk even more.

I don't know enough about Barbosa to make a decision on him but for those who use the 'he flopped at Inter' as an excuse, one Thiago Silva moved to Europe at a similarly young age and flopped massively (couldn't get a game at Porto or Dinamo Moscow) before he went back to Brazil and rebuilt his career. Milan took the punt on him when he was about 24/25 and the rest is history.

Sometimes it is better to take a step back, and from the looks of things he's done completely the right thing to go back to Brazil and restore the reputation he had before he originally left. That shouldn't be used as a stick to beat him.
