Yet people moaned about Callum playing there at the start but for me, Chilwell on the right is genuine baffling. Makes no sense, hasn’t got a right foot really. Already had Mount/Ziyech and CHO coming inside every time they could. So an inverted wingback, baffling.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

It was Norwich. Southampton ain't Norwich, even accounting for the rotated side.

Had plenty of shots on target to be fair.

Just poor finishing and even some of the half chances when we got in (Barkley and Kai had 2 excellent ones where Kai overran the touch clean through and Barkley never got onto Kai’s pass cleanly enough to put it past Forster), obviously performance not great mostly but still plenty opportunities.

Only real positive from going to penalties tonight is not having to play the extra 30 mins to get there. Although should of wrapped it up before, definitely, with some of the chances.

And I suppose looking at it in another way, getting another win on penalty shootouts is always going to be a good experience for this group. Already thats Villarreal, Villa and now Southampton already this season. Always good to have a habit of winning penalty shootouts, useful experience which may come useful in cup finals.

I like our squad depth in the sense that one or two can come in to the first Xl with not much change but when the scratch side play together it's a clusterfuck.

An understatement. Total chaos against Villa and Southampton in the cup.

Seemed like Kepa was not standing in the middle when Smallbone was going to take PK as if to coax him to shoot that side, he did and missed terribly.

Also Mount needs to learn how to take PKs, he missed against Norwich too and it was a nothing goal really as we were already winning, got lucky he could take it again.

Somewhat happy I missed the second half to go Christmas shopping with my wife. Will watch the pens later.

Christmas shopping? 😱😱 You gave me more stress than our most recent two games did. I thought summer has just ended..

He provides too much leeway for the keeper to know where he's going in his run up. Lampard did as well at times but when he did he slotted it bottom corner every time. Impossible for the keeper to get.

This does not mask over a poor performance tonight. That's 2 poor EFL performances on the trot.

Don't care much really, but it's a concern. Shows yet again how poor we are going forward. Also the defence has surprised me, being that shaky in the last 10 minutes.

To be fair the defence was shaky since the goal, Sarr really struggled after it and James also struggled on the right I felt particularly second half.

Would say that Trevor was the only one out of the 3 who played a half decent game throughout really, although he could do better in some part still.

What happenend to Ziyech? He was our best player in pre-season. Now plays sooo bad 🤢

It was pre-season. I remember some people here were screaming at me by blowing the Ziyech trumpet back then...

I never ever wanted him, said he was a donkey farmer league flat track bully with a bad attitude

we bought him because of those Ajax CL games versus us

we did the same with Salah (Basel) and then the cunt Mou would not play and develop him, same with de Bruyne (although his buy was not based off CL v us)
