Heard from Leverkusen fans they are already opening the champagne today. They are fairly confident they got the better end of the deal. 100m is max they could have got out of the deal anytime anyway so they are satisfied their management didn’t budge. The only way we could have gotten a few more pennies out of them is if we had dragged it on longer thus disrupting their preseason squad planning even more. Schick will replace Volland. Havertz will be replaced by the 17 yo Florian Wirtz. The remaining 75 will go into youth and development facilities mostly. Leverkusen are in a relatively healthy financial position thanks to the deal as their tiny stadium doesn’t generate much income anyway and they source most of their personnel from within

Sure it's a good deal for Leverkusen. If they'd kept Havertz till next year he'd have gone for a much lower fee due to contract length and chances are Bayern München would have been the main candidate to sign him in 2021. I'm sure Leverkusen fans are glad he's moving out of the Bundesliga and not to another German club.

But I think it's silly to actually celebrate when their best player leaves. Last year I was satisfied with the fee for Hazard but really sad that he left.

I think when a player of Havertz' quality is at a club like Leverkusen, you dont have any illusions about him staying anyways. I guess in that case you can be happy about getting the best deal possible.

Funnily enough, Leverkusen may not even get the entire 100 million since 20 million are add-ons and it will depend on things like winning the Champions League within the next 5 years.

I hope they can get. [emoji41]

The club are really going to make us wait until after the international break to announce this by the look of it.

😩😩😩

You know what you are getting for Christmas....but you have to wait to unwrap it. As long as he gets training with the first team ASAP all is good.

Our first epl game is just 4 days after the last NL game. There will hardly be any first team trainign with the whole squad together. So disgusting how int'l football is intetnionally harming the quality of club football by prohibiting any kind of meaningful preseason.

Wait i'm a bit confused. Doesnt Germany play sunday and we on the monday a week later?

Edit: Nevermind, just realized you mean everybody.

Could we all please stop complaining about the international breaks and do something about them instead. Apart from during the close season, I do not buy tickets for international matches, I do not watch them on telly or listen to them on the radio. I do not engage with them in any way. If every fan did the same, international breaks would be dead and gone by the start of next season.

Scrap the breaks, get domestic football over with more quickly as a result, then play a proper international season during what would then be a longer club offseason. Much better for all concerned. Yes, I know there are difficulties to overcome before this could be a reality, but the upside is too good to ignore. In the meantime, ignore is my setting of choice for mid-season international football. If you hate the international breaks as much as I do, please join me.

I just assumed this was the norm?

I build up such a hatred for a number of players on the roster at the likes of Spurs, Liverpool, United, etc that I find it impossible to cheer England on anyway and for me that has been the case since a young age. I want the Chelsea players to do well for their countries (as long as they don't get injured) but that's pretty much it.

In current times, am I seriously expected to cheer a team on captained by Harry Kane?!

On a side note, shortening the season (due to a lack of international breaks) and having a mini international season at the end of a season sounds a good idea. The summers that don't fall into major international tournaments they could have 2 or 3 friendlies and a training camp before the summer break, and then similarly in summers with international tournaments the countries could get the squads together a little earlier if the domestic seasons finish earlier for friendlies and training which I would assume could be much more beneficial for them.

Yeah, I can see all of the big sides struggling early due to lack of prep with their best players. All of us will have huge numbers of players away with their national teams while small clubs are working in training with most everyone available.

Combine that with all the new signings and it may take weeks or a month before we see Chelsea/City/Liverpoll/United etc playing their best football.

Dont be shocked if Brighton look sharper than us in the first match. Players like Havertz and Silva may only get a couple of training sessions in.

I enjoy the Spurs rivalry as much as anyone. In fact I'd say more than almost everyone,  but that doesn't stop me supporting Harry Kane as long as it's May, June or July. :)

On the expanded international season we're talking about, the non-tournament years would become mini-tournaments to qualify for the next summer's main event. A team camp would then be the norm. Whether these mini-tournaments are played home and away as now, or are staged in a host nation, is something which could evolve. Either way, we'd all get our bunting out, stick the flags out of the car window and, covid permitting, fill up pubs and fan parks all over the country. One of the upsides I described as being too good to ignore.

Rudiger begging to stay at the club. He knows he's fucked.

If we get Rice also, I can see at least two leaving or hardly being seen all season. Our CB's for next year, if Rice was brought could be something like:

Silva, Rice, 1 x Rudi/Zouma/AC, Amapdu/Tomori.
