Its not about not critisising him, he deserves it when it's due, it's more down to the fact one of the reasons that was being used to justify slating Sarri was he was playing the same old faces and not thinking of the long term future of the club, before swearing patience if the young players are given chances.

Now not only is the patience vow being spectacularly reneged on, the young players themselves are being targeted, some of the comments about Mason and Odoi in recent weeks wouldn't look out of place in the Kalou thread at its most toxic.

Yeah i know what you were trying to imply with your comment, i just replied to expand on that by expressing my thoughts on what could be considered a fair critisism on Lamps and what is unfair/premature.

Half the problem is we as fans have become use to the hire and fire, short term mentality that the club has portrayed in the Roman era.

Was it worth it? Hell yeah, look at all the trophies we've won and this ruthless nature got us to the top table of European football. But now seeing a team like Liverpool looking utterly dominant by recruiting wisely, spending money but in a correct manner and giving time and patience to build a team, I don't think this way works anymore. Sure it might help us get top 4 or win a cup but we need to look longer term at building something and right now our academy is the strength we have over others because if we get that right then we can go about buying a smaller number of players for the squad, and theoretically better players. I still think Lampard is the right person for that and what he's doing is building a base for the long term of the club not just short term results. I dread to think what we would be like if Sarri stayed or we brought in another short term appointment who had no interest in blooding these young players because some of the older players like Pedro, Giroud, Luiz (if he stayed) are on a steep decline.

Thats nothing new on here. Used to log on and avoid checking out the Mikel, Willian, Alonso and Ivanovic threads for a good while.

While there should be a degree of patience towards the younger guys it doesnt mean they should escape criticism of any level. The over the top stuff is ridiculous but thats just how it is. Even the Alonso thread, people bringing up that nasty business with the car crash years ago as if it was completely relevant to his performances as a footballer for us in the present day. Just mindblowing. Obviously it was an incredibly unfortunate situation that he was responsible for but in terms of reasons to get rid of him or whatever for performances, mindblowing.

Theres no doubt Odoi will get it tougher than any but he put the club through the ringer for a new deal. Got the mega money and his performances have been below par. Mount has struggled last wee while and maybe should be dropped but has shown enough in the first few months of the season to show theres something there.

When I’m seeing Ole beating City at Etihad...makes you wonder...

Why couldn’t we beat City? We have yet to beat a top 6 side this season.

Tactics and being clinical helps alot.......surely FL sees tha now. He needs to stop changing all the damn time, yes we have plenty dross in this squad but come now. Too many players are in then out...in and out. Not good that.

Is should always be a horses for courses thing in my eyes.

In 2008 we couldn't turn around and say "we lost but" purely because the squad was maxing out in terms of peak. Scolari was sacked despite only four loses upto February and non against non top four teams, however results in line with Scolari's with this squad would be very good work.

Now it's a completely different ball game. It's not turning into Arsenal (the Arsenal "excuses" were valid early on, it's only when Cesc, RVP, Nasri etc started hitting prime age and they still wouldn't adjust expectations they became a laughing stock) or making excuses, it's just a reality of where we are right now.

I mentioned a few weeks ago I was worried that we were getting talked about as title dark horses because it wasn't realistically a possibility. I wonder if some are subconsciously or otherwise seeing this period as a "title challenging team" losing 3 out of 4 instead of the reality of a young team nowhere near its peak experiencing the inevitable downs that's par for the course.

Frank Lampard has a stark warning for his Chelsea stars after Everton defeat

Frank Lampard did not hold back in his assessment of the Blues' performance as Chelsea fell to a 3-1 defeat at Goodison Park against Everton

I wonder if we will go and buy ake this January?

Do you you guys think he can imp or defense?

I don't.

If you ask me I think we must buy two towering centre backs before doing any sort of deal.

I was watching some experts talk about rotation and they all said 'If you want to rest players you always rest the midfielders or the attackers, back line always stays put no matter what'.

Look at Klopp's last matches, he's rested every single midfielder and attacker, but never his defenders.

Frank must build a very solid defence and then we're good to go. If you ask me Reece James should be the only actual defender starting next season, too. The left back should be a Chilwell type of full back and the CB pairing should be an imposing and calm one, the type of Gimenez-Godin partnership.

Zouma I think has reached his max level and he's not good enough, Christensen is too soft and surely this must be Azpilicueta's last season as a starter. The fact Lampard keeps chopping and changing at the back makes me think he does not trust them that much, hence must invest massively in that area. No reason to have ballers up front if defenders can't even do the basics.

And then also against West Ham people wanted Emerson out.

So again it's not any better.

Just that our defense is horrible.

it's a miracle we are in top 4. We should be in 10th place!

not out yet

we want a new bloody LB in the market

no one wanted the worn down plowhorse Azpi in at LB

he is poor enough at RB, but at LB you take a stop sign (him at RB) offensively and turn it into a black hole

plus his defence there somehow got even worse than it has been on occasion at RB

Wonder if Lampard has given the players the hairdryer treatment because they deserved some bollocking for the recent defensive farce!

For everybody moaning about Lampard, it should also be noted that City without Laporte are barely any better than us defensively without Rudiger.

Guardiola doesn't trust them to the point he is playing a midfielder at centre back and is regularly chopping and changing his back four. This despite the millions he's spent, four years at the club and a number of years experience at the top level prior to the City job.

Lampard isn't blameless but at the moment he has no choice but to make do with the defenders he has because we haven't been able to strengthen. With Rudiger out, three players who were out on loan last season would probably make our strongest XI, 2 of which were playing in the Championship last season. These players need to develop and it's difficult at present because they're playing with other defenders either not good enough or who's influence is in decline.

We'd get away with it like City do if we were more clinical because it's not from a lack of chances being created but with four of our main attacking players the age of 21 or under, that will hopefully come in time from then. For now though it's not helping us, because defensively we're pretty rubbish. Even today when we didn't play great, we could easily have scored 3 or 4 from the chances being created. The only game I can think of this season when that hasn't stood up is the West Ham game which was woeful all over.

Nah it is on Lamp. Zouma can't play as LCB,yet he is playing as LCB. Where the hell is Tomori.

Watching Christensen defending the box is killing my eyes.

Zouma spend his time starting our attack, yes Zouma. I thought this is what Christensen is supposed to be good at.

I have no idea why play Azpi as left back against Everton.
