ulsterchelsea 3,221
All the fucking moaning about his last kick being Munich and all that. What if his next last kick is to win a second european cup? Will it still be a mistake? Of course not, get over it gary gordon
Term-X 7,891
This isn't the same Didier Drogba though..As Tomo has mentioned, it took Eto'o a full season to adjust after his retirement from 'competitive' football, it's going to be even more difficult for Drogba, as he'll have less (far less) games to get into the swing of things again. If he had kept his legacy the way it was, no player in the history of the game could match the way he went out; unless their last kick was to win the World Cup. The Skipper 20,609
Costa, Lukaku, Drogba. So much better than Torres, Eto'o, Ba. So much. iseah100 and Kieran.
CHOULO19 24,332
Costa, Lukaku, Drogba. So much better than Torres, Eto'o, Ba. So much. That's a pretty complete complete strike force. Not in the sense that it has overwhelming quality, but in the sense that the three have different traits and they compliment each other. (Same if you replace Lukaku with Torres). Jype 6,398
20 goals in 53 games for Galatasaray is not a bad return and the Turkish league is a lot better than people here are giving credit for.Drogba knows the club and Mourinho inside and out so adaptation would be quick and I feel he can still contribute a lot as a third choice striker / coach. Costa, Lukaku and Drogba would be a perfect strikeforce IMO, though first there's just this small matter off telling Torres he's not wanted anymore and finding him a new club. Easier said than done I'm afraid.

Chelsea? 892
guess his last kick in a chelsea uniform didn't bring us a CL trophy anymore. That was such a beautiful story The Chels, Amblève. and Term-X
Popular Post! The only place to be 11,313 Posted July 21, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted July 21, 2014 As far as legacy goes.. you just can't ask for anything better than leaving after your last ever kick being the CL winner. Stupid decision by Didier and the board, Eto'o would have been a FAR better option. No proper Chelsea supporter is going to let whatever transpires in the next 12 months affect Drogba's 'legacy'. He's a legend, end of story. As for Eto'o, they're different players. If you want to discuss the tactical implications of Drogba coming back then that's an interesting discussion to have but I think this is more akin to you discussing Mourinho and his suits or your 'outrage' at our light blue training kits which might look too much like City's. It's a massively superficial analysis.I won't complain if he's brought back, but I have to agree with Term here that I'd rather have seen Eto'o given another year long contract.Again, how does that work tactically? Costa does what Eto'o does, whereas Drogba offers something different.I'll go back to the West Ham game last season where we created 39 chances. If you're pumping balls into the box against a packed defence, who do you want to introduce - Drogba or Eto'o? Beigl 1,387
He still has something to offer despite his age.Yes the last kick of the ball for Didier sounds romantic, but he is a legend anyway,so if he signs a 1-year contract and scores say 5 goals in 15 apps no one can complain. zolayes and mediator

The only place to be 11,313
Put it this way, 32 year old Eto'o needed a few months to adjust to playing in a major league again, now we release him when he is fully acclimatised to go through the same thing with 36 year old Drogba when we could jyst extend Eto's deal. The welcome back vs Leicester would be good but beyond that this has nightmare written all over.Beyond being black, from Africa and playing up-front, Eto'o and Drogba are very different players. If you remove any analysis of their tactical impact then the comparison makes sense (almost) but I'm not sure if this is a case of Drogba replacing Eto'o.In fact out of all of our strikers from last season, Drogba is most likely a replacement for Ba as the target man/aerial presence/back to goal type striker....except better. If we're playing against a parked bus and Costa alone isn't working (because there's a lack of space behind the defence for him to exploit) and we're looking to pepper the box with crosses, which striker do you want to bring on? I think even aged 37 I'd still plump for Drogba over Lukaku, Torres or even Eto'o.
