I thought he was about to erupt when he said he did not understand that question. You could feel how irritated and pissed off he was in that moment. Also it was the first time this season when he partially mentioned something about the referring mistakes but thankfully he didn't go deeper into that. The way stories go about him about taking defeats as a "virtual state of death" I would not bet against Chelsea winning both the title and FA Cup. This loss could be the catalyst of Chelsea's final run of games just like the Arsenal one. Conte looked destroyed and I'm sure there is going to be little to no sleep for him in the coming days. Most importantly he took the blame on him and didn't throw his players under the bus like a certain manager does after every negative result. Ivanovic constantly selected, Matic also and the fact we never had a plan B. No surprise that flair players this season have started looking like real players instead of defensive wing backs. I'm not for one minute saying it was all the fault of JM but he's a manager stuck in the dark ages. Lets not forget he sold KDB, Lukaku and Felipe Luis who would all walk into this team as it stands now. He's not everything he's cracked up to be. During our time with Mourinho one of our biggest problems, especially against big teams, was the lack of press resistance and ball playing CBs. We constantly struggled against teams that would heavily press us, leaving us to be very deep in the box and hoping for scraps going forward. Ball playing center backs in modern football are no joke; they allow your team to be more resilient against pressing teams-which are usually the best teams in Europe- and also advance the attack, not having to rely on your attackers dropping deep and going past three or four players to just get into the opponent's half. Whoever thinks ball playing CBs aren't a must in modern football is living in the past. With Antonio's back three, what's made us so much more resilient to the opposition press has been having Azpi and Luiz as two defenders who are comfortable with the ball and under pressure. Today, we had only David Luiz as the only defender out of the three who can do the same. Antonio's worst mistake however was shifting Azpi to the left, this made everything ten times worse since he isn't comfortable on his left at all. Fortunately he realized his mistake soon enough and reverted his position with Moses but he should have had Ake in the squad and play him and Moses as wing backs. 1/3 defenders that are good with the ball is simply not enough for a back three. This game certainly reminded me of the Mourinho days. I hope Antonio learns from this lesson, and I hope we sign Van Dijk in the summer for this exact weakness(and because he's an upgrade on Cahill of course). Lots of players on the team are poor at keeping the ball/passing. Matic is very bad, Willian too, Azpi is just okay and Cahill and Moses are bad as well. This creates a lot of pressure where we can't really keep the ball at all. This was just a carbon copy of the Tottenham game. The way he responded by not understanding the question said a lot, the way he spoke about refereeing mistakes in last games said a lot. Costa can't win any headers so that guarantees you the ball. Prevent any passes from getting to hazard and hope costa is playing on the same level as torres and we have no attacking threat. Like I said in another thread, we have the worst ball playing footballers in the top six so high intensity pressing is our weakness, and I fear that Spurs will show us this in our next match.
