The Mourinho Thread

That happens when you win stuff.

Just like posting nonsensical drivel might get a person a reputation as a bit thick.

Support and patience from the proper supporters.

We're a young team in the process of being built. City lost away to Cardiff despite being a 'build team'. It's going to be painful at times but supporting a football team isn't all about glory and gloating to your mates. It's hard at times, something that a lot of people probably aren't aware of because for the last 20 years we've been on an upwards trajectory.

We have one of the best coaches in the world. People need to stop expecting miracles overnight.

You miss the point!

I'm talking about the philosophy we are trying to put into this young squad. It should be an attacking approach, what Roman wants.

I'm not sure if Mourinho is the man for that job.

He's counter attacking instincts might not be the best for players like Mata.

In Mourinho's first season with chelsea, while results were good, Mourinho's first few games established a narrative that would persist to this very day. Slow, strong, compact, tight - boring, boring Chelsea we were. José's first nine league matches in charge saw four 1-0 victories, two 0-0 draws, a 2-0, a 2-1, and finally a surprise defeat (the one and only league defeat that season) away to a pre-riches Manchester city. Lots of points but really not much inspiration.
But right now in mourinho's 2nd spell with chelsea, Ignoring the Champions League for a moment and if you squint a little bit, this year's results mirror that season's semi-closely so far. We've had a 2-0 and a 2-1 already, followed by a 0-0 and that classic 1-0 away shock defeat.

Patience, it took 9 league matches in his first season for us to finally become superb. Patience

And not to mention, the attacking trio behind the ST have been constantly changing.

vs Hull - Hazard/Oscar/De Bruyne

vs Villa - Hazard/Oscar/Mata

vs Man Utd - Hazard/Oscar/De Bruyne

vs Bayern - Hazard/Oscar/Schurrle

vs Everton - Hazard/Mata/Schurrle

vs Basel - Hazard/Oscar/Willian

Funny because the only time the team was clicking was under the first trio...

Basel knew their roles and played as a cohesive unit as did Everton.

Yes it will be a rollercoaster for a while and ignoring specific issues with the formation, players and manager (and there are several), we are where we deserve to be because of shoddy planning at more senior levels.

Lack of a cohesive management structure, lack of a cohesive player recruitment structure, lack of a cohesive player progression structure (youth -> first team

In Jose we trust..

What's funny about the Everton game is that we did well when they were trying to play possession football - I'd argue that their win came from the point when they reverted to a more pragmatic, counter-attacking style.

Like you say it's about a cohesive structure and that isn't something that comes overnight.

Then Mata will have to leave.

If you look at the players we have in the academy and the style of football they're trying to play then it fits this club. Boga is a young Hazard/Oscar, not Mata and we desperately need a 24 year old Chalobah or Loftus-Cheek. It's going to take time, and that's going to require patience on our part.

Completely disagree. Basel in the first half were nothing short of brilliant. They kept their shape, defending incredibly well and didn't put a foot in wrong. In the second half they had go forward and leave spaces at the back and they made the most of their chances unlike us. Fair play to them for trying to get the second goal after the equalizer instead of just sitting back to defend a point.

The way I saw it. Basel were waiting hoping for Chelsea not to score many. Just look at Chelsea´s possession. Clearly it indicates who controlled the game. Oscar´s goalpost could have sealed Basel´s faith, but it didn´t.

As I explain above. Greatness is too strong of a word to be used for Jose, in my opinion.

Better than good, perhaps ? Jose was fortunate to come to Chelsea when Roman took over & spent millions. Jose acquired a reputation of a winning coach. Then he proved it in Italy, but partially failed at Real. Success has been very generous to him, but as I said moneybag owners came by & suddenly Jose has a real challenge ahead of him.

But he was successful with porto.

In jose's first spell with us, it was only after our 9th game that we got into stride

what about the older managers (began coaching before José) who are considered great?

Examples: Jupp Henckyes, Hiddink

Jose is great...but there are other managers who are also great.

Jose is one of the most succesful managers in a short time, he is definitely a great manager. I know jupp henckyes is great, sir alex is great, but so is jose.

Yes, but they couldn't just wait, they had to defend and defend well. I thought tactically they were incredible. Never lost their shape in the opening 45 mins except when Luiz came dribble forward and forced them to at the end of the game.

Honestly I'm more upset about Hazard's miss. Oscar's shot was unlucky, but Hazard should have scored. So should have Iva with a couple of great chances from headers. The first was straight at the keeper and the second was cleared off the line by a defender. Like I said in the match thread, it's a game of tiny margins.

Yes, he was successful at Porto. Who isn´t ? Porto wins it just about every season.

Don´t get me wrong, I still believe Jose will turn things around, it´s just for now, Chelsea can´t beat anybody, lately.

Hopefully, Chelsea will convert their chances, soon. Then, teams like Basel are no match for Chelsea.

They've won two European Cups in their history - Jose won one of them the season before he came to us.

Inter Milan have won three European Cups in their history - Jose won their first since 1965.

Don't go getting a reputation.

Sell Mata?

/sigh

I will tell you that Roman will not let this happen and he should not let it happen. Mourinho will be out first before Mata, as we don't get rid of our best players just to please any manager.

Mata is only our best player when he's playing the best football. He's not irreplaceable and to be quite honest Oscar has had an impressive start to the season now that he's been given the chance. I think you're completely wrong about Roman by the way.

He's not Brazil's number 10 (technically Neymar is, but hey ho) for nothing.

mourinho will get it right, no available manager is better than him.

He's studying his players, he'll find the perfect system very soon and we'll start stomping people once again.

By this time next month, if the system is still not good.

Then i'll put my hands up and admit mourinho does not suit our team. But the likelyhood of that happening is 0.000000000000001%
