Popular Post! CHOULO19 24,332 Posted January 14, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted January 14, 2014 I know that this doesn't exactly fit the general consensus, but I think Jose, and the team as whole, has exceeded expectations so far this season. I mean, this is the same team that was struggling for consistency while playing some uninspiring and disjoint football to say the least. We were a cup team last season.I have always said that the expectations that we would be title favorites were always unrealistic for such a young team that has been away from the top for a few years. For me, the fact that Jose has us performing fairly consistently, especially in the league, in such a short time is a very good achievement. Not because it is true. How would a journalist know such a thing?

Yeah I know. I would like it if it's true. I think the man has shown that he is still up to the task.I was afraid that Madrid had killed his desire like it has killed many players in the past. He's done great, now it's if we can keep it up till May.Dont get me wrong, I am super excited we are in the race and the team is actually playing well! However, one cant say we have exceeded expectations if the season isnt even close to finish yet. I mean, in one month we could be top of the league or outside the top4. It is way o early to make any conclusions...The fact we actually have a manager in the dugout instead of a waiter?Wow, you took 7 months to make that conclusion? didierforever, Sheva., Jase and 1 other
The Skipper 20,609
I'd say we would've exceeded expectations if we actually win the PL. Right now we are where I thought we'd be - challenging for the title with Man City and (surprisingly) Arsenal. DDA and Rmpr
Jase 43,479
Mourinho certainly deserves credit for putting us in a position to challenge for the league title right now but as Rmpr said, it's too early to say we have exceeded expectations. Different people would have different expectations from the team this season of course but if we are to go along with the exceeding expectations, best to do it at the end of the season where it will give us a better picture. At the moment, this 'exceeding expectation' evaluation could easily become 'failure to meet expectation' within a month or two if things suddenly go wrong. You could also say that the simple reason that we are in 3rd and only 2 points behind first place right now is because we have a competent manager who knows how to challenge and win league titles as well as handling the pressure of being there, as compared to the managers we had in last 2 season - AVB, RDM and Benitez. And I don't disagree with Choulo's point that we were a cup team last season (and arguably before that too) but the average squad depth - besides having an incompetent manager - certainly played a part of us being that and inconsistent in the league. Would have been interesting to see how we would have fared had Mourinho managed us last season and with the exact same squad. City, in terms of power of the squad, are in another dimension. You can't compare them with any other club".
CHOULO19 24,332
How has the team exceeded anything if we are still in January? It has exceeded my expectations of the time it would take Jose to get the team playing a definite system that actually works and doing so consistently. We haven't had that around here in ages! Barbara, The only place to be, Tomo and 1 other
