Loïc Rémy

It's pretty much been discussed before by some other guys but Remy is a real nice signing (if it happens) in my opinion simply because he adds a different profile to our strike force. As I mentioned before, we now have an all round, complete striker in Costa, a pace merchant/poacher in Remy and a target man in DD.

Remy is a very good finisher and seems to be in the right position at the right time, plus his technique in general is good for someone who is mainly a poacher. Remy would be amazing to bring off the bench against tired legs when the game opens up tbh.

At £8m it's a great signing, and if we can add to it by bringing in another good striker next year when DD retires, we'll have a strike force up there with City next season.

this thread has more than 10 pages made only today, I admit I was a bit lazy to go check and see if any of the guys I'd like to know the opinion had posted or not.

Thanks and sorry for making you repeat yourself.

Actually Mou isn't behind this, we just got no other choice really and Jose wants 3 strikers in the squad. He probably prefers Destro more, but Roma is clearly not letting him go so we have to sign Remy.

Are you an ITK?? :carlo:

Why do some people want to spent 20 million + on a second choice striker ? You do realize whoever we sign will be sitting on the bench for the majority of the season right ?

Remy is a good all around striker with a lot of pace. He's already used to playing in the PL so he doesn't need a lot of time to adapt. He's a proven goalscorer in the PL and he's cheap. Excellent signing if it happens.

Gignac is overweight, doesn't have a right foot and is lazy. There is a reason 'Un big mac pour Gignac' is a saying.

'EPL proven' is one of the most cringe-worthy idioms in world football.

Not every player has to be incredible.

I have. He did OK for QPR in his first (half) season tbh, considering QPR was an absolute mess at the time. 6 in 14 isn't that bad, that's almost 1 in 2. Giroud is definitely a better all round player than Remy but he isn't as clinical as Remy, no.

And if that's the reason why you don't want him why didn't you say so from the get go. That I can slightly understand, but I still believe that at CFC that supposed attitude will either a) change as he's working under one of the best motivators in the world, or B) get him sold again. I'm more inclined to think that a will happen.

I hope you have seen him in first season at Qpr. Giroud is better player, his allround game is better. Finishing about same.

And I dont want Remy because he would be bad player. I dont want him because he is player who never gives 100% to the club. He doesnt give a shit realy. Thats why.

By the sounds of it some people want to spend £50M on Cavani as the 2nd choice striker. Why don't we buy Pogba, Reus and Kompany as back up while we're at it eh?

Many people come to the PL and struggle. It is more likely a player will be a success at a club if he joins from a team in the same league, as he is already accustomed to the style of play, the tempo of play and the teams in the league. It's not cringe-worthy, it's a fact. Saying that what I just said is an idiom is like saying players being able to be in and out of form at any one time is an idiom.

Nah that's not a problem at all Barbs, I just assumed that maybe you were following the discussion. Ask anytime, I don't mind at all. :P

I'm not sure what people are complaining about here? Remy would be the perfect 2nd choice striker. Cheap, EPL proven and brings something different to the team compared to our other strikers.

He was always one of the ones I thought made most sense to replace Torres as our 2nd choice.

I brought up Gignac purely because of his goal-scoring record at Marseille. My point was, goal-scoring records aren't everything.

I did say his character is why i dont want him here a few pages ago...Its main reason why I dont want him here.

I have feeling he is kind of player who works ass of to get big juicy contract and fancy club and then his performances drop to bang average.

I assume 2nd striker will still play alot this season, I feel Mou will risk Costa as less as possible, probably replacing him in around 60/70min if we have good result. He will also start about 15 games, maybe more depending on cup's progress.

As much I like Drogba, he looks like he cant run anymore, or at least does it very slow. I dont expect many goals from him, despite it would be nice. Anyway, spending 20m for second striker wouldnt be too much then, considering he will play alot, after all we have 35m Willian on bench too...

Remy might work, but someone with more determination, inteligence and hunger for success would fit better here IMO.

Many players come to the PL and don't struggle.

Many players move within PL clubs and do struggle.

And vice versa.

It is a pointless statement to make because it means nothing. Success in one instant does not in whatever shape or form gaurantee success in another.

Prove to me that is's easier for a player to be a success at a different club in the same leauge without using anecdotal evidence.

Huntelaar no. He's 31 ffs. I'm not sure Alcacer has done more in his career than Remy either. Marseille and Valencia are similar clubs (size wise) right? Remy has lit it up for Marseille as well so you can't really state a case to me in saying that Alcacer is better than Remy because IMO he's not and he hasn't proven such either.

Are you sure Marseille fans complain about him like that? You're lying. I've got family in France who are massive supporters of Marseille and they hold Remy in high regard. You don't know what you're talking about at all. In his first two seasons he scored a total of 17 and 20 each, and in his last (half) season he was injured quite a bit hence didn't play a lot at all. His move to QPR means he didn't give a fuck about achieving anything? Are you sure? Don't you remember the QPR that signed the likes of Granero from Real as well amongst a few other quite exciting players? They were an ambitious team and gave Remy a lot of money. Obviously they fully flopped but you can't say deduce from that that he never had interest in achieving anything serious.

As I said before, Bony would be a great signing but how available is he? You're not taking that into consideration. Will Swansea be willing to sell him for £10m/£15m more or will they hold out for an even higher fee knowing that the transfer market is closing soon? It's not a guarantee that Swansea will accept a £20m from us. He's one of their main, most important players.

Like I said, there is no rush... And if anything the board has proven this summer that we've stopped overpaying for players. It's better to go into the season with Costa, Remy and DD and then look properly for another striker that can challenge Remy and Costa next season. Maybe next season we can bring in Bony for a fair price, but right now we won't overpay for a player.

Remy was hyped to be something like next Henry etc. He scored goals but he was known to be a bit of cunt with not so great work ethic.

And qpr? What i call being ambitious is going to teams like Chelsea, bayern, psg or at least spurs, arsenal. Qpr was all about money, not ambition. If I was picking back then between Qpr or even Newcastle, Swansea I would pick Qpr only for money, newcastle and swansea are simply better english clubs.

Of course, hence why I said 'they gave him a lot of money'. QPR were at the time taken over by a billionaire as well, and they brought in some decent players so their project over there looked more attractive than lets say Swansea's or Newcastle's did. Of course it was sweetened by the money they threw at him but at the time QPR looked more exciting than Newcastle IMO.

Of course Newcastle is the better club though with better history and such,.

@Jype, @The Skipper, @, @Daniel1980, I don't remember Remy even in his matches against us last season. It's a player that completely faded in my memory.

What do you have to say about him? Asking you guys because we tend to assess players in the same way...

Don't know much about him to be honest apart from what I've read here and on the other forums. Newcastle fans seem to rate him highly as do QPR fans but they think his performances have been crappy for a while because he's been edging for a move. I've read that he's also apparently a mercenary, rapist and banned from driving for being over the drink limit.
