This has been mentioned many times before - the club wanted to play attacking, progressive football and they took the initiative to buy young and talented players to help achieve that style of play. But for some reason, they went and hired a manager whose style of play is the complete opposite of that and then allowed him to ruin their good work back then by selling those players and ending up with a bunch of braindead players.

Regarding Mata, I'm finding it incredible that Mourinho barely played him here but is now playing him a lot at United.

Yeah that is true. We had a highly egoistic manager who screwed us badly :(.  Regardless our board has been making a lot of stupid purchases and sales. What was the point of selling Luiz and then buying him back? I would think we actually lost money in the whole transaction. I get when we sold and bought back Matic, *we thought he matured well, and maybe he did for that one season* but otherwise the board is making some really stupid mistakes.

Hopefully Conte gets enough time to sort this mess and build a proper team. I am sick of make fix managers. If the players can't listen to the manager throw the players out (it shouldn't be the other way around)

It is because his first and second choice (Rooney and Mhky) AM are playing poorly. So he has no other option and whenever mata plays they look like a better team

He can shift to a different formation if he wants to really but he's just obsessed with his 4-2-3-1. And let's not forget we're talking about a manager who didn't drop players when they played poorly last season.

IMO because there are 4 players in that team that can give some kind of control with the ball.
