Let's be honest if it weren't for Lampard this would have happened sooner.

Conte, Sarri and Tuchel have all came to the same conclusion with him. He has his strengths but I feel he's been massively overrated by the fanbase over the years.

True enough regarding his strengths and then weaknesses such as on the ball and reading the play at times but I do think for a 4th choice CB, he is not exactly the worst option either.

I mean the boy Kounde looks talented but who’s place is he taking? Azpis? Rudigers? Silvas? Even then we have Christensen and Chalobah also. I don’t think he’s necessarily coming straight into the starting 11, which is why I find it odd we are moving someone out who is perhaps more likely to be content as a 4th choice and buying a 50m+ CB when we still haven’t addressed midfield yet.

Azpi's legs are gone, same with Silva. Replacing both with a younger CB is smart business

Absolute beast and a Chelsea lad, always enjoyed seeing him on the social media accounts, as well as his performances of course. Simply not the style of CB we need going forward, but he is a solid player for another team with a commanding vocal partner.

What might have been, hadn't he suffered that ACL injury. Wish him the best of luck!

I don’t think it would have changed much. His technical deficiencies are down to his talent not his injury. He would have played more during his time here but he never would have been the right player for the current system. He just was born too late. In the Good old 2000s he would have been one of the best old fashioned cbs. Monster in the air strong tackler always fighting. A guy to rival  Vidic or JT. Ball playing cbs are all the rage nowadays at top clubs so players like him have to ply their trade elsewhere. He still is a premier league and champions league winner so he will have no regrets

Maybe so, but he probably would have been an integral part of our defence & things could have been different with him being an established CB for us.  Guess we'll never know.

partly because of his aerial ability and a few good-looking blocks/tackles
