Funny thing, the guys at the saints forum thought that Shaw got battered by Moses in the first half and that Bertrand was of our better performers. Not saying I agree as I did not watch the match, just giving you a different perspective.

Yeah Shaw didn't have a good game but don't think Bertrand was anything special either.

Meh, I don't think we need to do that. Bertrand isn't amazing but he's a good defender. Plus, Cole is a big miss but not like he's had a great season either. I don't think we'll miss Cole that much. Bertrand will become a scapegoat that I know for sure but in reality his performances won't be any worse than Cole's.

One of our best players today, that's now two good games for Ryan this week. Hope he can keep up this form and show us what he can do, it's not every month Ashley Cole is out for a few weeks and Bertrand hasn't had such an opportunity before.

Excellent today. Hardly put a foot in wrong. Defended very well and showed unbelievable stamina in those runs up and down the flank for 90 mins!

At this stage of his career, he's going to have ups and downs in terms of match performances. If we can't understand and accept this as fans, then we will keep praising him one week and signing Shaw the following week

What I like about Bertrand is his tenacity, which makes up for some of his shortcomings, but what concerns me most is he is very often "sucked" into the midfield. He has a tendency to try and close a player down to such an extent he begins to chase them, only to get turned and then leave the entire left flank exposed. That happened twice yesterday, but fortunately thanks to the positional sense of Terry and Ramires (Terry moved over into the LB position and Ramires covered in the centre), we managed to get away with it. Yes, it's admirable to show such tenacity but he needs to show more positional discipline, in my view.

But I won't deny he had a good game yesterday. I'm pleased for him, and hope he does well for the sake of his own career at the club.
