Fernando Torres

Maybe Fernando needs to make a phone call to the Facts man. It couldn't hurt.

A whole can of worms there. First, I'm not sure they left on good terms. If you read an Irish Independent article on Torres transfer, it sounds like Nando was on the fence about Rafa unlike Reina (love RB) and Gerrard and Carragher (not so love RB). Second, if it goes public then there will be tab headlines about Torres ousting Ancelotti and championing Benetiz. And Benetiz wasn't known for his man management so it's not like he's going to say anything that will make Torres feel better.

Credit to Benetiz, he has said nice and supportive things about Nando since the transfer (things that contradict the slime PR on Torres around the time of the transfer). I was a little surprised that he didn't play to the Liverpool crowd and join in on the boot kicking.

Rafa is Rafa but Torres has admitted Rafa made him a better player even if Rafa had no man management skills per se. I'm just talking about Rafa giving him little pointers like he always did at LFC. If not Rafa than a call to Xavi Valero who both Reina and Torres credit with making them better players.

Anything to help right now.

Argh, another "what's wrong with Fernando" article...yes!

This one does try to avoid the hysterical tone and provide some analysis though nothing we haven't heard already.

The most interesting aspect is that along with Alan Shearer, the other "expert" is Torres' youth coach at Atletico Madrid.

Alan SHearer is a pathetic cunt. He seems offended by the fact that Torres signed for Chelsea. As a former player, you should support other players because you've experienced such moments. but that bastard keeps on saying how poor Nando is. he cant utter anything else.

I think the problem is not Nando, I cant judge him right now. I have been supporting him since the transfer. The whole team is a mess. Its a shame he came at a time when the team was wobbling. even our usual strikers don't score anymore. Drogba stuck at 10 goals, Berbatov at 21 OMG.

Nando will come good, but the team has to play better than its doing atm.

Apparently, in 160 minutes of playing together Drogba and Torres have only passed to each other five times and one of those was from the kick off. This is way more worrying than I thought.

Not really, Drogba and Torres aren't going to be a strike partnership next year. Torres is the main man and will most likely just be the lone striker in a new 4-3-3 next year, with Sanchez and Neymar on the wings :D

I haven't watch Neymar play but is he really a winger? What if he comes in and wants to be a striker? What if he won't track back to help the midfield? Torres is an out and out central striker so he's not going to play anywhere else. Neymar sounds like a wonder talent but is he really the winger Chelsea needs?

He'll play on the left side and cut in, that's his best position. He'll beat a few players and either score or lay a few chances on a plate for Torres. Same goes for Sanchez, except he won't cut inside as much and provide much needed width on the right side. Neymar won't track back, but Sanchez will.

Ah, thanks. Have you watched both a bit? If so, do you think they'll match up well with Torres?

I'm not sure Chelsea will be able to afford both. I hear some prices for Sanchez and think they're unrealistic. I can see his price go way up if City and supposedly Liverpool are interested.

I haven't watched Neymar a lot, but Sanchez I have watched a lot. I would love for us to get Sanchez because he'll give our team something we haven't had for a long time. A pacy winger that will provide some width. He's very fast with the ball and can pull off his fair share of skill moves, leaving 1 or 2 in his dust and providing a quality ball for the striker. Sanchez also works very hard for the team, he's sprinting the whole game pretty much, tracks back all the time.

Neymar on the other hand, won't do much tracking back and even if he does track back, there won't be any conviction in his defence. He's a wonderful talent with a lot of creativity and an eye for goal, more so than Sanchez.

They can match up with Torres, especially Sanchez. Neymar maybe would prefer some 1-2s with Torres, instead of making that early pass that Sanchez will try. I think we need both guys to give us some width, creativity and scoring help as I don't see Frank and the rest of the mid providing much goals from here on out.

I broke my media blackout to read the article since its BBC. Forgot about Shearer. To his credit he wasn't as negative in this article as he has been in others. He's still a jerk.

Calvo: "I'm convinced this is a sporting thing and not a mental thing. Fernando is a very strong person. If you give him any task, he sees it through to the end. When he was a youngster at Atletico, you could see he would become a special player. He was very intelligent and always tried to help other players. He was an example to everyone at the club."

Having joined Chelsea mid-season, the Spaniard has struggled to develop any chemistry with fellow strikers Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka or creative midfielders like Frank Lampard, Ramires or Florent Malouda. (This is all true except the creative part.)

Calvo: "At Liverpool he was always looking to get on the shoulder of defenders and look for spaces in behind, whereas at Chelsea he keeps coming towards the ball because he has other forwards around him. Chelsea don't need to build a team around Torres but they need to adapt their style a bit to get the best out of him. They have great players but he has specific movements that they need to learn to understand, like Steven Gerrard did at Liverpool. I don't think it's so much adapting a system to a player, it is about working on specific plays that suit the player. He needs a situation in which when he moves, Frank Lampard already knows what he is going to do, so he can play the right pass in time for Torres to finish it off. But I'm not convinced Carlo Ancelotti has maximum faith in him like Rafael Benitez did. That can't be easy for a player."

^ Yeah, I read that article too. It was very good considering both obviously actually tried to analyze the situation rather than just berating Torres. I mean, to be fair, Torres hasn't looked that bad. His effort is definitely 10 times better than it was at Liverpool. The main problem is that, unlike Drogba Torres needs to run on the ball to score. Those kinds of balls he doesn't get cause the midfield is never on the same wavelength. Of course that isn't the only problem as even with the chances he's gotten he should have notched a few already, so that's the confidence issue.

Bad start, but the future will definitely be bright. It would be a worry if he wasn't even able to get himself goal-scoring chances, but fortunately that isn't the case. He gets that confidence back and he would have had 3-5 goals already by now.

Yep, even Torres wife would say he should have scored at least a few by now. He's like a golfer with the yips but worse. He's kind of like this guy where it's just not going right.

On the other hand, the middle's poor play seems to get a pass by the mainstream media.
