Ryan Fong 2,776
After today's match, LUIZ! It has to be him!
Milan 17,959
I had my doubts my they are gone after the Man United game - Luiz. He showed commitment and hunger and care for the club and events on the pitch.
diskoviolente 425
Bit dirty there in the end, but Luiz is just the guy for us. Has to sort out his elbowing from time to time but otherwise, the guys has the guts to take over from Terry or Cech.
Jype 6,398
Seems like everyone else is hopping in the Luiz bandwagon now too. I was there already before it became too mainstream.
Fernando 6,585
It's a no brainer really. Only one man for that job. Expect a contract raise for that man soon.
Martina 210
I know my view won't gain much support - but after today's match I'm even more convinced that Luiz needs to "grow up" before I consider him an option. That silly grin was so unnecessary - can't imagine Lampard or Cech behave like that.
BlueLion. 21,491
^ very fair point. I had never seen a particularly petulant streak in Luiz before, but his reaction (and dissent) that led to his yellow card, and then his reaction to Rafael's kick suggests he isn't as mature as we thought. Martina 210
Terry has done much worse, while wearing the arm band.Yes, JT did plenty of silly things in his life. But it depends on how you define "worse". What Luiz did today is quite typical of Spanish and/or South American football (does Busquets ring a bell?) and I personally dislike it with a passion. The focus could have been on our victory - now it's his childish act that makes the headlines. Imagine if he played for the opposition - we would be calling him all possible names right now. Hutcho 8,443
Our Current Captain, is worshipped by chelsea fans, and hated by everyone else.Luiz is now loved by us, but hated by many after his antics today...Seems like a perfect fit for me. As i have said before, there is never gonna be an exact replacement for JT, but Luiz would make a good captain imo.The most important thing, is for him to play well, love his club, and give 100%. If he does that, then he is a great shout for captain.

No it wont gain ANY support because our current captain, which is and have been great, isnt exacly known for his "calmness" either.I dont understand what people like you think when they think that players need to "grow up" when showing commitment, passion and heart. Hutcho 8,443
One last point for now...I would rather have a passionate, perhaps overly so player as my captain, than a Captain, who doesn't look like he cares. Its like the manager situation. No one wants to see managers be like Avram grant and have the same facial expression whether you are up 2 or down 2. You want someone like mourinho who will run a lap of the pitch when you score a winner. If a player proves they will do anything to help the team succeed they will gain so much respect and admiration from the home fans.

I don't know any "people like me" - so I can't enlighten you on what they think. I can only speak for myself and give you my opinion (as much as you can give me yours). For me words like "commitment, passion and heart" mean many things, but definitely not a stupid and totally unnecessary laughing when your opponent takes you down. And no, I'm not saying he should have started crying either - just show some dignity.
Atwa 78
I think Luiz will be the perfect captain one day. As for the stuff like the smile today, I think its irrelevant to whether or not he is a capable captain. That is just who he is, AT TIMES, at other however he is screaming at teammates and referees alike. He has immense passion, that is clear. I think its better to smile after a challenge than to do some of the stuff that Terry did that is for sure. It also helps that he is very liked by fans and players alike. Martina 210
Yes, it's important to have passion. But it's equally important to keep your calm when necessary - have you seen Cech and Lampard trying to calm the players down today? Or Cech calming Terry down after he got the red card against Barcelona? Luiz needs to learn that, staying focused and think two steps ahead. And since he is a fiery and easily agitated player it will only come with age and experience. Mind you - that's not a criticism of him as player or as a person. His time will come. And goalkeepers as captains: Buffon, Casillas, Khan, Schmeichel… Some food for thought: Goalkeepers in my estimates would make the best captains due to the fact that they have the best view of the whole field, can map out strategies, are more level headed on the field and generally command more respect from peers, opponents and officials. Goalies have a better visual range than anyone else on the team and don't have to worry about being offensive or defensive, rather marshal the troops in position, map out tendencies of opposing strikers and midfielders and not to mention the fact that, other than running up for a corner kick and back down, have great stamina and do not tire through constant jockeying for the ball and running. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/17856-goalkeepers-your-best-bet-for-captaincy
Bosnian Blue 2,471
Nobody can replace the captain of all captains. John Terry is the ultimate skipper. We've been blessed with captains like him and Wisey in the past twenty years or so. I'm hoping for an academy member to take over once JT is gone, I'd love it to be Todd Kane or Chalobah. Its a fantasy though.
