I prefer if Frank-fucking-Lampard was given a contract than buying this lad.

That goes in the 'why are we paying Torres so much?' file of false equivalences.

I don't understand where people are making this assumption from? When has this ever been stated?

Frank plays in the pivots...

When has the club stated anything?

Oscar was the guy we went after when we couldn't get Modric. He has all the tools to play in that position and he's not realistically going to play anywhere else is he?

For 3mi yes, not for 11.

Buy Isco with 15-20 then...

I thought people were joking when they said we're only buying players if they are Brazillian (and Belgians/Spaniards). It seems its true...I can't see the interest in him other than his Nationality. Shell out a little more for a player who is substantially better (Isco).

Nothing you mentioned hints at playing him deeper. Everyone is just making assumptions.

The fact that we went after him after we couldn't get our primary target for that position doesn't suggest he might have been bought with that in mind?

Fair enough. Where do you think we'll play Oscar then? On Mata's shoulders perhaps?

Perhaps the position in which he has been a starter for quite some time now within arguably the best footballing nation ever. An attacking midfielder, the position in which he built his name. That position.

So he's going to play the number 10 spot for us? Is he going to be on a job-share scheme with Mata then?

Ultimately, I disagree with what you're saying about him going forward. Mata needs to stay where he is and we need a deep-lying playmaker who has all the talents Oscar has. If we're not going to play him there, it's a waste.

By that Logic we should stick Mata in as a DLP because of his supreme passing and vision. It seems people are only mentioning Oscar as a deep lying playmaker because he hasn't set the world alight yet in his usual position. Give him time (a few seasons) and he will. That is his best position.

You're ignoring the fact that Oscar is not just an out and out attacking player. He has qualities that would translate better into a slightly deeper position. Just because we signed him as a 10 he cannot evolve into a different player? He's 21! Listen to what you're saying, it's madness.

Are we ignoring the fact that Mata has been our best player for over a year now and is still only 24? He doesn't show any signs of giving up that position so to say we should stick Mata as a DLP (which is a deliberate obfuscation of my logic) is asinine.

But let's look at Oscar's game too. He has the workrate to play in that DLP position, he has the vision and he's one of the best players I've seen who just keeps things ticking over, a la Modric.

That might be his best position for what Brazil needs, but for what we need he seems better suited to a deeper role.

At this very moment he is a no 10. We can't think of him as anything else. He's potential to be a DLP should not count anymore than the Potential of Cech becoming a Striker. People need to stop talking like Oscar is already a DLP. IF that ever happens, it'll be down the road. Our purchasing of players should not be influenced by the mere potential of Oscar being a DLP one day.

Nobody is restricting him to that role. Oscar could easily fulfil the old Lampard role as a LCM if we revert to a 4-3-3 team which is feasible if/when we get a new manager. He looks like a very interesting player and could fill different roles depending on the opposition/injuries/form. To shackle him to one role and one role only is foolishness.

That's not the point here. The point is we shouldn't be put off buying a 'Moutinho' on the mere 'Potential' Oscar has to play deeper. That's just idiotic.

Actually, Cech has never played as a striker for us. Oscar has played in that DLP role.

You still haven't actually said which position he'll be playing now though. You've said he's a number 10, but Mata is our number 10. Is Mata going to move aside or are we going to sell him?

Fluid system. No one has a fixed position so Oscar can play as a number 10 for portions of the game.

Or maybe we could play 4-2-2-2. Hazard and Ba upfront :D
