That's 24... Another yorkshire woman too, from Leeds. Does that put Yorkshire back above Australia?

Team GB can barely be taken seriously with it's pathetic attempt at trying to claim other country's medals, instead of competing as just England like every other country. <_<

Well done to Bolt as well. Coming on Holidays to Australia and not grey, dull England :P

hell of a crash on the bmx track .1 got ahead and then on one single bend the other 7 who were giving him chase piled into each other. haven`t seen that amount of carnage since watching car rally racing in the 80`s.

Greatest race i've ever seen in my life!!!

Only cause it was a kiwi who survived the carnage

Great bbc mini documentary, on the nature vs nurture debate, about how black sprinters dominate the short race events... And reasons why etc... Really interesting... Anyway back on the olympics, GO ON BOLT...

Did they mention the vast anthropological differences between East and West Africans/West African diaspora?

No East African has ever run 100 metres in less than 10 seconds.

That's such a nonsensical argument. You measure the strength of a nation by how many athletes they've sent to the Olympics, not the total population. Nearly 70% of Americans are overweight, how the hell are they ever going to represent their country? And thats not including those that are too old too participate, too young; too sick, etc. When you get that out of the way you're left with about 10% of the population capable of playing sport at even an amateur level; perhaps 1000 out of the 300 million have the capability of making an Olympiad. There are so many problems with using pure population as a measure.

India, for example, usually sends about 5 people even though the population is about 1.1 billion; this year they have sent their highest ever field with 83, and have won 4 medals for their trouble, working out to 1 per 20 athletes. Australia sent its smallest team since Barcelona 1992, with only about 400 athletes competing. Compare that with 630 in 2000 and 482 in 2004 and 433 in 2008. That's a medal per 14 athletes, doing better than the likes of New Zealand who are averaging a medal per 18 athletes even though New Zealand's population is a quarter the size of Australia's.

GB sent 510 athletes to these games. That's worked out to be a medal per 10 athletes. The USA sent 530 athletes, and have done far better than Britain with a medal per 6 athletes. They've won the Olympics, unless GB wins another 30 or so medals and the USA don't win a single medal for the rest of it.

You missed the point. The point is basically saying we have a good amount of athletes to country size compared to the likes of USA and China. So what if half the USA are obese, they don't have to be. Even giving credit to the Aussies, you've had a shit olympics as you well know but if you had performed as you know you can, you'd be in the top 3 maybe. Don't just think i'm being bias, i'm even giving you aussies credit. It also makes NZ look good too :D

Not sure why you quoted me there, Yorkshire is in England lol. It is NOT a country...

Bit annoyed that Bolt won. He comes across as bit of an arrogant twat to me. He could have tried to break the world record in the 200m yesterday but chose to antagonise his team mate instead which is a but sad really. I would like to see him fall over during a race one day, it would hopefully knock him down a peg or two.

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/bolt-im-greatest-235040645.html

And who the fuck is he to decide that he is the greatest? Idiot. He is one of, if not the greatest but that is for others to decide, not himself. There are lots of athletes who have won more than him.
