Shane 2,275
The number 9 should have been retired when Pizarro left the club.Still miss you Claudio.
Blue Armour 4,443
In other words, you are suggesting that we give the supposed iconic squad number to someone who is fitting to wear it, right? If that is the case, then I very much agree with it.Same here. But really, it doesn't matter in the end if someone else gets to wear it. Its not as if Drogba was wearing 11 the whole time he was here.
Duppy Conqueror 1,539
i dont see even what the honour is supposed to be in retiring a number anyway,if i was a great,i would want future greats to wear my number and to have worn the same number as greats from the past.but that`s just me..it`s not as bad as Prom Nights and Pagant queens ,gun crime ect. but it`s still one of the stupid things that North America introduced that i hope we never follow.25 wasn`t too bad because it`s a number that isn't that important other than because Zola wore it. francozola 2,040
Thank you AlexI'm getting tired of all this talk about retiring his number, building statutes etc. Yes he was a legend for what he's done for the club and he played the biggest role in helping us win the two cups this year. But ffs people are also forgetting his negative aspects like moaning at times, throwing his toys out of the pram after Jose was sacked, showing disinterest in plenty of matches, so on. I don't mean to be the downer and talk about such things just a week after the greatest night of our history and also his exit from the club. He was a great player and is a truly wonderful human being as well, but please let's stop getting carried away!

manpe 10,861
The number retiring idea was always moronic. I agree that maybe for a season it could stay vacant so that fans could get used to it or whatnot, but as with everything else in life, time will change everything.. in a few months the calls to retire his number will start cooling down and in a season (or two at stretch) noone will even think of that anymore. Hell, only unusual numbers should be retired at extreme circumstances, like Turnbull's 22 for example.Imagine number 1 being retired in Cech's honour, lol... no goalkeeper would want to join us anymore, except for maybe Fabianski or that lesbian looking Paddy Kenny from QPR. ulsterchelsea 3,221
No interest in retiring numbers at all. The legend of the players will live on so why shouldnt the number. Plus kids grow up hoping to wear the same number their heros played in and those numbers should always be there to aspire to.
LDN Blue 7,903
Agreed. Look at what United did, all their number 7's (bar OWEN) have been terrific (Beckham, Best, Cantona, Ronaldo..), that's a much better system than retiring numbers.

Kezza 1,965
Were people being serious when they said retire the number 11?That's a bit far ain't it. Drogbas legacy will live on through his number
Kieran. 6,317
Retiring numbers 1-11 is quite frankly, stupid.Retiring a number like 26 isn't a big deal (like TX said). Plausible because it isn't a traditional number.
Superblue 6,372
Agree with not retiring numbers and following on from what LDN Blue said in regards to United's no 7 shirt, I would be pleased for someone new to come into the side and whilst appreciating what Drogba did for the club, not be afraid of 'following in his footsteps' and show the confidence to take his no 11 shirt on and continue the legacy. Same with Zola's no 25.Maybe Hulk and Hazard between them can take those two numbers this summer What I do think though that Drogba should have to be honoured is one of those banners in the ground. Considering what he achieved for us, it's a real slap in the face that Torres has one having done very little so far.
Kojo 4,676
It's quite silly anyway, i mean Theo Walcott wears Henrys number for christs sake.
Superblue 6,372
And let's not forget that Drogba hasn't always worn the number 11 shirt. He was 15 for the first two seasons. In fact the change in shirt went hand in hand with a hugely upwards curve in performances and goals. No chance in retiring it, if it's a lucky number! Santiago. 1,500
Think we can safely say that Lampard has taken the crown of this club's greatest player. Least imo anyway,
Rambo 1,729
I agree with that logic, but If Zola wore a number 1-11, would it have been retired?
