Pizy 18,952
Sounds like a preemptive “I’ll step aside until the heat subsides” statement. Before the government step in and fuck with the club. He can now argue that since he will be hands off they shouldn’t punish the club that has nothing to do with what’s going on in Ukraine. Milan 17,959
He is not selling anything. He is just making sure it is not seized and he may come back once the whole thing ‘settles’. Very smart actually. Nero

Pizy 18,952
The maniacal bloodlust amongst opposition fans is hilarious. Apparently they think Chelsea itself should be seized and we should be kicked out of the league just because the owner has connections with Putin. The same league that has owners from repressive Arab countries etc… Nothing is going to happen to us. This is Roman protecting the club preemptively. Taking himself out of the spotlight so he isn’t a massive distraction for the remainder of the season. Nero and Laylabelle

MoroccanBlue 5,383
Roman Abramovich has dramatically relinquished the running of Chelsea in an attempt to distance the club from the controversy surrounding him as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and calls for him to be sanctioned. Abramovich will remain as Chelsea’s owner and, providing he is not sanctioned, can still invest money into the club, but he has handed the running and decision making to the trustees of the club's charitable foundation, which is headed by Bruce Buck. In his statement to announce the change, Abramovich made no mention of the war in Ukraine and did not condemn the actions of Russia president Vladimir Putin, which could lead to more calls for him to face sanctions. Other than Buck, the trustees include manager of Chelsea women, Emma Hayes, chief executive ofKick It Out Piara Power, along with Paul Ramos,John Devine and Sir Hugh Robertson. Chelsea remain insistent that the club is not and will not be for sale, but the move is likely toencourage interested groups and individuals to test Abramovich’s resolve with takeover bids. Football decisions, such as transfers, player contracts and the future of head coach Thomas Tuchel will be the responsibility of director Marina Granovskaia and technical and performance advisor Petr Cech. Neither Granovskaia nor Cech are among the trustees. Chelsea insist that Abramovich’s decision to step back has not been made in an attempt to avoid sanctions, but instead to protect the club at a time when it was in danger of suffering reputational and strategic damage. In a statement, Abramovich said: "During my nearly 20-year ownership of Chelsea FC, I have always viewed my role as a custodian of the club, whose job it is ensuring that we are as successful as we can be today, as well as build for the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities. I have always taken decisions with the club’s best interest at heart. I remain committed to these values. That is why I am today giving trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC. "I believe that currently they are in the best position to look after the interests of the club, players, staff, and fans."

Magic Lamps 11,692
Very sensible move. Roman prevents us to be affected by sanctions and allows for continued operation of the club even if he himself will be targeted. It is however unlikely he will fund us in summer in case sanctions persist, which i consider the base case. So we might be forced to pay for new signings exlusively out of the club's own cashflows. DDA 9,941
You couldn't actually ask for a better owner than Roman when ut comes to the running of a club. He is a legend in his own right within the World of football. I hope he has no dealings with the current situation between Russia and Ukraine. It would cast am enormous shadow over what has been an incredible time basking in the sun. Fernando

milka 3,393
Chelsea have grown to the high, high level and can compete with the elites even without funding of Abramovich. Chelsea is a global brand already next to Manchester United, Liverpool , Bayern , Real and Barcelona
