bluesman2610 1,417
Hey friends - First post ever on this board. I'm from the States and stayed in west London a few weeks ago. I've always loved soccer (yes, I call it soccer lol) and have always admired the PL very much. While watching a few CFC games with passionate fans while I was there, the choice of which PL team I had to adopt was clear. It also doesn't hurt that my buddy is a big spurs fan. Proud to be a part of the BluesNation! Now, my question to you all is this: Would you play Messi physically in an effort to slow him down and frustrate him? Watching all those Barca games in LaLiga, I get so frustrated watching the defenders lay off him and let Messi run circles around them. Respect his skill, but send a message early in this match. Lets go CFC.Welcome to the boards, nice to have another North American Blues fan here, to your statement about frustrating leo messi, from what i have seen of the lad that does not work Real Madrid have tried to employ this tactic time and time again in every el classico but he seems to not get phased by it, the other thing is taht we can't just focus on messi he is a talisman don't get me wrong but their attack is too potent to focus on one player for us to be successful in 2 legs the team defending has to be top notch, we have to bring back that good old english defending blocked crosses and shots as well as mikel will need to stand on his head to cut out passing lanes, as well as some high pressure from the forwards to cause the backline to give up the ballTBH we have a serious chance as barca have not been the greatest in recent weeks and our form since RDM took charge has been pretty good even with some scrappy wins but that is a sign of a great side pulling off wins when you play poorlyCOME ON YOU BLUES!!! :blue scalf:

Kojo 4,676
Why pick Essien over Lampard and choose to even start Malouda!?Because Lampard has played countless of games, and wern't you the one saying Barca will be fearing us?, big huge lol for you then. Kojo 4,676
Lampard has been playing better than Essien and offers more. I'm sorry but Sturridge will not work hard. That's just the type of player he is. Therefore he doesn't suit games like these. Maybe he can come on as a sub when Barca's players get tired so he can exploit that and his lack of defending won't hurt as much. And Malouda...seriously?....No, just no.MALOUDA WORKS HARD!, LAMPARD HAS PLAYED OVER AND OVER AGAIN!. GOD DAMNIT WHY CAN'T YOU PEOPLE JUST UNDERSTAND!. Ollie 4,400
Need to get Messi sent off so he misses the 2nd leg or completely Break him with a JT challenge or Mikel, JT and Essien all take turns to kick him or stand on his toes to try n break a metatarsal. He's never scored in England tho has he? Except the Final last year.

Santiago. 1,500
This is what my ideal result would be,First Leg-----------Drogba------------Kalou-----Mata----Ramires---Lampard------Mikel------A.Cole----------------Ivanovic--------J.Terry---Luiz------------------------Cech---------------Subs-----Sturridge--Torres--CahillThis foramtion has benefited us under RDM and out there is our best possible starting 11. With our form/moral and power of this formation, i think we can get a victory with this.Presumably if we get a win or a scoreless draw, it does in the end benefit us.2nd Leg (Away)--------------------------Torres----------Mata--------Drogba----------------------------------------------Ramires-----------------Lampard----Mikel--------------A.Cole--------------------------Ivanovic------------J.Terry----Luiz---------------------------------Cech---------------------Subs---CahillSturridgeRomeu/EssienNo way in hell were going to out possess Barca at the nou camp, this formation is directly influenced on defending and forcing the counter attack with drogba dropping down to fill his defensive roles while Torres and Mata up top pressures the Barca defense.
