Frank Lampard

This can't be good.

Is this a way to get back at the club for letting him go?! Is this really worth it, losing the respect and your immortality status by fans? No!

The only loser is here is Frank! It will certainly damage his LEGEND status at the club and certainly doesn't go along with the Chelsea faithful! As simple as that! All this years of hard work and sacrifices will go down the drain just like that!

This 6 month playing time definitely not worth damaging your life long reputation.

Super Frankie Lampard No More!

I just saw the interview on SSN with Carvalho (sp?) and he seems alms of speechless really stunned and I felt disappointed about Franks choice.

Here's another interview with him: http://talksport.com/football/exclusive-former-chelsea-ace-lampard-must-be-respected-man-city-move-140803105478

Such a classy guy and was a great defender. He's also still respectful towards 'Mr Mourinho' even though Jose forced him out of Madrid.

I don't really see anyone saying he isn't still a Chelsea legend anyway, though those who back Lamps seem to think they said exactly that.

It's a straw man argument:

'I'm disappointed in Frank and against the move.' (Only a minority are going further than this)

'WHAT?! How dare you say he's not a legend anymore after all he's done....'

When you become a cult icon and symbol of the club.. that transcends what you've done during a playing career. Football is about tribalism, Lampard isn't just a former employee like Salomon Kalou.. he's Chelsea personified. That 'responsibility' you are questioning is dealing with the fact you're an ambassador of the club. It's the relationship you have with the fans, saying what he said in 2013 demonstrates a lack of class and respect. Signing for the family of our direct rivals in the first place, goes to show this guy has no affinity with Chelsea.

Bringing up the 9/11 stunt and the AVB sabotage was about context in relation to this, not selective memory.

Two sides of a coin, really. Applying the same logic you could make a point that the club treated him without much respect when his contract was not renewed. I mean if he's a cult icon then the club surely needs to give him a contract that covers the rest of his career, right? That's not how things work though.

And what is the cult status all about really? IMO if a player reaches that with a team he needs to work really hard to erase all the great memories he left in all of us for more than a decade. In my eyes putting the shirt of an EPL team, who is not our traditional rival by the way, for six months isn't such a crime against humanity. FFS, when Frank was banging goals and winning silverware in his prime they were in a fight against mediocrity, they have risen up when he was entering the twilight of his career.

What he said in 2013 was when he just signed his new one-year contract and I really think he meant it. Probably at the time he said it he never thought he could play for any other team period, not just in EPL. But more than an year has passed since then and you could imagine how many things have changed and we're not really sure how the contract talks went. The only thing that remains is that year old quote that the super sensitive fans are using as a beatstick, which is quite sad.

According to David Johnstone, spokesperson for cfcuk fanzine, Lampard had said as recently as last month that he would not play for any Premier League side other than Chelsea.

"He told me in the first week in July that he would not go to any other Premier League club and that he had season tickets for this year at Stamford Bridge and would come down," he said.

Who? I doubt this guy knows what's going on behind the scenes much more than we do, but either way does that make a huge difference to the overall plot?

If he wasn't reliable why would the BBC quote him? And well it negates everything you just said.

He's spoken to Frank himself, has nothing to do with 'behind the scenes' stuff.

The fact that it's quoted on BBC is not a merit of reliability. Regardless I stand by what I said. Don't cling on every word that has come out of Frank (in this case not even by him) like an obsessive stalker or annoying wife. When people say something that doesn't mean it's unconditional. Things change and so do our plans.

Ok you can choose to believe that he lied about speaking to Frank. Where do you see me clinging onto his every words? I was just proving you wrong

LOL! Have you really proven that Frank should be stripped of his legendary status with the club? I don't think so. Just some dubious quotes. Have a nice day :D

Some very dubious inferencing. How have you managed to draw that conclusion? I simply disproved your 'old quote' rant. Buh-bye.

Also, for every argument for his decision there is a very simple counter-argument: It's only for fitness VS just go to Melbourne then, he won't be starting VS it's even more pointless for him to be there in that case. At the end of the day, he chose City.

You mean simplistic, not simple.

Melbourne is a stupidly long commute for a man with a young family in this country and he clearly as aspirations to play internationally still so why wouldn't he push himself at the highest level - the PL and Champions League?
