Lamps is the king. Amazing how the media wanked about steven Gerrard getting that 100th goal. Lamps got his 100th ages ago. Might say best Cfc player ever? I mean, Osgood, Dixon and co were all great players but football over last years had taken massive leap forward.

He is definitely our greatest player. For a midfielder to hold our club's highest goal scoring record and assist record is massive. I think he has the 2nd highest assists in the EPL ever.

I dont like to retire numbers but if there is one player I would do is Franks #8. We wont have such consistent, home grown player for next 50 years. Players like Frank are not born every day. His commitment to our club, his personality and achievments definately point to at least think about retiring #8. Its big number, but he is also a big player that deserves some kind of memorial.

For the first half of action it seemed like the Super Eagles had turned back the clock and rolled back the years. Gone was the timidity and the nervousness that had characterised their dull group encounters, the side looked bold and brave. In comparison, the Ivorians, so well-fancied before the tournament, looked laborious and lethargic – their casual approach matching the unprofessional nicknames on some of their shirts.

With the interval approaching, Nigerian enterprise eventually paid off. Soon after Yaya Toure had been forced into a shoulder block to curtail Moses’s advance, the Super Eagles won a free kick 30 yards out. John Obi Mikel laid the ball off, and Emenike, with the weight of 19 years of anguish behind him, fired the ball over the wall into the goal. Running boldly at the Ivorian defence, the striker, included at the expense of the likes of Peter Odemwingie and Obafemi Martins, sent a deflected shot up and over Boubacar Barry.

It prompted ecstatic scenes in Rustenburg, as Stephen Keshi's men played out a nervy final ten minutes as the Ivorians pushed. John Obi Mikel must get a mention for a terrific tackle on Traore, but the whole team will be heralded as heroes after a glorious victory and well-deserved progression. They now face Mali in the semi-final on Wednesday.

Mikel dealt with Yaya, Kalou, Tiote and Yes Drogba at the AFCON in January, this is a team game everyone is required to put in their best from keeper to striker. whenever the team plays like this Mikel always stands out: Nou camp 2009, Munich final, Spurs away last season, Everton this season despite the loss due to loss of concentration. Mikel will never be accepted by all but whilst he still plays for CFC we should support and hope he becomes a better player which he definately can. I am yet to see a stronger physical Midfielder in this clime.

I never understood how they differentiated a midfielder vs striker in England.....

Cristiano is consider a midfielder at Man United, but a stiker at real madrid. Similar to Mata when he was in spain vs here...

IMO, cams, wingers and cf should all be consider strikers...

No chance, United could have retired number 7 when George Best retired but then Erik Cantona. David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo would have wore different numbers.

In the 2nd half we lost control and City were all over us in midfield until Mikel was brought on to stabilise the ship a bit.
