It's totally different to play against top6 teams in Everton than in MU. In the past few seasons there was Barkley, Mirallas and Lennon supporting him, from now there will be Mata, Mkhitaryan, Pogba and Martial, so don't be surprised if he starts to shine in those games.

I wonder if we get anything from this transfer money wise. Last I heard we had no sell on clause when we sold him to Everton. He is homegrown thanks to us, we should be getting at least a little something.

After evaluating the situation logically, I think this was a blessing in disguise. Lukaku would disallow us to play good football. It would be another case of supplying the target man via long balls again and that's really not a style of football I'm interested in tbh. I want us to become a technically efficient team, rather than a hoof and hope for the big man to do his work.

So are we becoming like Arsenal? Maybe, but arsenal problem has never been about transfer, year after year they have one of the best squad in Epl. People can mock Wenger but in term of squad development he is fantastic. 

One thing for certain we certainly cannot compete against united in transfer, in two years they have spent, maybe over 200 million gbp without selling anybody significant. There is no way we can compete against that. 

I think last season I said I was worried about united not because of Mou but because United can spend and spend have by far the best squad in the league. Last season I rated United squad either 1st or 2nd in the league (the fact that they finished 6th was very underwhelming) yet here they are spending crazy money again.

The fact that we panicked and matched it at the last minute when it was far too late tells me that we were indeed caught completely off guard here. We probably figured we could sign Lukaku whenever we felt like it because he wanted to come here and no other big club was interested.

Foolish and incompetent but as others have said, maybe a blessing in disguise that will kick our board into gear.

We were the only club with serious interest in him, so it made sense to try and negotiate for a lower fee. We had a lot of on going negotiations for other players as well hence the stepback from the Lukaku deal. In the end we didn't really match Manchester's bid. They had 75m+15bonuses+Rooney+10m+Raiola's fee. We only matched the 75m+15bonuses so obviously Everton prefered to sell to United. I can understand the reluctance to buy him at this price an it's not like our budget for the summer was exclusively going to be for the striker. The Diego Costa situation also didn't help. Had he moved to China maybe we would've submitted a bid earlier.

I don't get that blessing in disguise thing. If you didn't want the player why the hell did you make the whole planet believeyou wanted the guy. This is just disgraceful and disgusting. Everday until the end of the transfer window i will see this in the news. Man Utd have had to live with the Mikel Obi transfer and now its our turn to do so. Its sad really sad cause everyday since this news broke out thats all i see with chelsea and their transfer dealings. No news on Baka or Sandro or Rudi just Lukaku so it will rob into our face. Forget the blessing it is more of a disgrace. 

No prob if you lost Lukaku but i was managing but chelsea just had to match the bid. This is funny. Chelsea matched the bid not beat but matched. Am having such a laugh now that i think about it. I hope we smash Man Utd home and away next season so it can ease the disgrace.

He'll do well there. Be with a different class of players to what Everton had. We it seemed just dragged our heels for whatever reason. Which may not be the case and may have been going Man U all along who knows just seems very quick business from them. Easy done no saga.

Hopefully we can be quick with others but looking a bit unlikely at the moment

The bid at the very end was to save face IMO. We've gone for an angle that blames Lukaku and his agent for choosing United & the agent fees over us for "sporting reasons"
