Call it 'arrogance', but when a player is clearly so damn below-par, and when so many 'new' football supporters don't understand how the game's been changed by marketing, it's the biggest relief to not see your club fall for the new-age (yet).

It's been like having my ears and eyes punched by Mike Tyson daily whenever reading or hearing radical pro-Lukaku (&Morata, gotta be honest) statements; all the intense energy...for this guy. It feels like a win for traditionalists.

A win. A big win. There'll still be doubters when he scores a few goals against top teams, who'll completely ignore the previous 70 minutes of poor play (like we've been putting up with re: Costa) - but it's dying. Rapidly. This facade. Truth has won, and only the idiot manager has gone for him.

*How dare Stamford Bridge be 'home' to a player who's never done anything for the club, when others have had massive parts in giving us our very best days since Roman came, & are barely even remembered.

Anyone of sharp mind will be amused by this measure of success. Goals = good, no lol.

It's like saying 'tomatoes make a good pasta sauce'. No, that's simplistic; not if herbs & seasoning are totally lacking. A striker playing for any top team should be scoring 25 goals every season as a minimum, and if that's all he can do, with no other good traits, your taste is terrible.

Meh we won 2 PL titles in 3 years without them. We wouldn't have some of the same players if they had stayed. ex; Cesc and Costa.

I'm not upset that we've missed out on him. I am upset because the board showed 0 intent this transfer window. This "matched bid" looked really fishy and panicky. 

This transfer saga won't help the club at all.

Ultimately, he was Conte's first choice so I trust his judgement of a player and what he felt he could get out of him over someone posting a load of waffle celebrating not getting a player.

Yeah, we made a bid very late on but at the end of the day, the decision still comes down to the player. The bid is there, we want him but he can easily say 'No' to United but it seems he's been influenced by Raiola to join them.

Yeah, like Man United are run by some amateurs who wouldn't make sure everything was agreed before making the announcement.

Agreeing personal terms is just something they have to write in that media release but everything's been agreed since two days ago and the announcement is just a confirmation to their fans and stock holders that he's coming, something which Chelsea could take a note from, I'm talking Bakayoko&Rüdiger and how frustrating it is not having heard anything yet.

They won the race for Lukaku as soon as they briefed the media about having reached an agreement with the fee two days ago. Everything that happened after that was just Chelsea trying to save face having missed out on the signing, and judging by the latest article on the Times it has even worked:

Now in the eyes of Chelsea the official scapegoats for this shower of shit are Lukaku and Raiola, not Emenalo and Granovskaia. Making the late bid was nothing but a media play because by then everything was already agreed with Lukaku and United so there was never really a chance of hijacking it anymore, and making sure everyone knew Chelsea's offer included less money to Raiola was merely trying to paint him as the ultimate villain.

Can't really say I'm overly sad in missing out on Lukaku the player assuming we now get another top striker (Belotti, Morata or Aubameyang) but the way this has been handled is what makes it so disappointing. Conte wanted Lukaku, the player himself wanted to come and he still ends up at a rival club because of the board's incompetence. This has been a massive embarrassment to Chelsea as a club and we'll keep hearing about it for years every single time he scores for United. The only way Chelsea will end up on top here is if Lukaku somehow flops massively at United or has a huge falling out with Mourinho and we get the last laugh but does anyone really believe that will happen?

This kinda hurts reading. But it's Chelsea's own fault. Really wanted to see him return as he's always been positive about us and that video of a younger Rom talking about dreaming on Stamford Bridge and emulating Drogba. 

On top of that Mourinho who send him to Everton. Mourinho doesn't have an eye for talent and young players. And now he wants Lukaku. What a farce. 

 

Please Chelsea...get Antonio Belotti or even Morata. He doesn't deserve this.
