Here's the thing though - we aren't the finished article right now and it would be asking a lot for us to win it this season, BUT is it asking a lot for us mount a title challenge at the very least? Given how the season is panning out, I don't think it is over the top to maybe expect that.

I was all for Lampard managing expectations when the title talk happened weeks ago but looking back at some of the comments, he didn't even think we could at least give the challenge a go, never mind winning it. Then when the bad results came, he went all "I told you so" and there was plenty of self-fulfilling prophecy going on.

We had a similar rebuilding of the squad 7-8 years ago and in Mourinho's first season back then, he knew that we didn't have quite enough to win it but he still made sure we gave the title challenge a good go. We finished that 2013/14 season just 4 points behind Man City and we could have even won it had maybe one or two things gone our way. But now? It's like Lampard is not even trying to embrace the challenge, try to set the challenge for the players to achieve. We might not win it but at least set the challenge for the players to test and challenge themselves, give them the confidence and motivation. Plus, they also need the experience to be involved in a title race. Instead, it feels like we have missed an opportunity and are now scraping to finish in the Top 4...again.

7 points behind Liverpool, who have hardly looked like world beaters. We really should be at least fighting for the title but alas, the manager...

United now only 3 points behind Liverpool, with a game in hand...

That's whats scary. There was talk of them winning the title. Everyone laughed but look where they are now. Still don't think they'll win it but to be right up there after a poor start and this whole Ole getting sacked yap...

Didn't think it would last long but didn't think only be a few weeks!

Home form is out the window, and we're missing our fantastic away support.

Thiago did nothing special at all the whole time he was on
you are just taking a cheap shot at Mount, which is really getting tiresome
you and a couple other are obsessive in your Mount bashing when the lad is absolutely NOT deserving of that level of hateration
Kepa? yes
Alonso and Emerson? yes
AC? yes
Mount is streets ahead of them yet a few haters on here non stop bash
and this Thiago comment, whilst maybe true overall, certainly was not warranted in the slightest by his spell in this game

I thought he controlled the game in the few minutes I have seen him on. He also played 6 long balls in 17 minutes and had 91% passing accuracy.

I am just not a fan of Mount's playing style. Reminds me of Oscar and I was also not a fan of his playing style either. I prefer in the role Mount currently is playing a Modric, Cesc, Xavi, Thiago type of player. Similar young english player would be Foden.

I actually like Mount, just not his football^^.

Maybe I should reduce my criticism on Mount for a while, just like I did with Werner.

He is not a bad player and I see good attributes. Just the key attributes are missing that would make him WC and long term Chelsea starting material.

Oscar couldn't shine Mounts boots in terms of pressing

Oscar was, back then, a better scorer than Mount is now
