Edinson Cavani

Two things - people want to see the club self-sufficient and healthy. Yes we have Roman but the guy has done more than enough for this club and I don't want us to have to be relient on him forever, which is why fiscal responsibility and the stadium are such key issues. Yes it's great now, but this club isn't just for us to enjoy. It's for the people who come after us. People before you and I fought to keep this club alive yet there are some people who are happy to run around like a madman with the credit card.

The other point is about Cavani and his peak - if he's at his peak, then by definition the only way is down for him. We've actually spent the last couple of seasons buying players on their way up. It's been far more sensible in my opinion.

We are slowly moving away from relying on him but not yet and you want to be self-sufficient? Look across London to Arsenal and Spurs, now you want that don't you? And Arsenal have a much better stadium+higher revenue.

Tell me a striker who have potential to become as good as Cavani(Which is one of the best in the world) in 1-2 years? Don't say Lukaku because we got him.

also strikers are expensive..and especially if Madrid and City want them too. we have no striker anywhere near Cavanis quality so we need to try our outmost to get him. also with a more flashy team, we could get better sponsorship deals, more fans etc > more profit.

The two teams in the Champions League Final started with strikers who cost less than we spent on Shaun Wright-Philips.

We won two league titles with a striker named Didier Drogba who scored less than a dozen goals in each season.

This fascination.....no, obsession some people have with us buying the most expensive striker around is bewildering sometimes.

Let's see how much top strikers in Europe cost nowadays:

Aguero £40m

Falcao £51m

Ronaldo £80m

Van Persie £24m

Mario Gomez cost Bayern £30m or so at the time

Dzeko £30m

Tevez £25m

Ibra £20m to Milan and £15m to PSG

and others...

Other strikers who will be costing a lot too:

Jovetic £20m min

Higuain £20-£25m

Mario Gomez £15-£20m

Hell even David Villa who had been in terrible form is going to cost any club wanting him £10-£15m

You get what you pay for...quality. And Cavani got more quality than all of these players who are up for sale atm so he is worth his price tag.

You left off the two strikers who started the Champions League Final.

Madzukic - £12 million

Lewandowski - £4.5 million

Yes but unfortunately we don't have anyone atm. And Lewandowski was only discovered because Dortmund couldn't afford any striker that are more expensive. Mandzukic was really bought as a back-up for Gomez and because he was injuried until new year, so it was only an unexpected success. Are you telling me you are willing to have Lukaku starting over Cavani just because Cavani cost a lot of money?

And for your point about Drogba, yes we did but we only won 3 league titles, wonder why? 1 is because he was on fire, the other 2 was because of Jose's genius and we played shut-out football super effectively. That won't work anymore nowadays. We mostly won cups because he was always there to save us, now he is gone no one is stepping up.

Benteke could be.

Personally I think we can win the league with what we have up front now, if we strengthen in other areas. We won the league with Drogba scoring less than a dozen goals (I know I'm repeating myself but it's important) because we had goals in other areas, and a solid defence.

Getting a 20 goal-a-season striker isn't the only way to build a team capable of winning the league, especially when you have players like Hazard and Mata.

I'm willing to start Lukaku over Cavani because I believe in him. I think he's got maturity and experience that belies his years, he loves this club and he scored 17 goals last season. That's more than Drogba got in his first two seasons with roughly the same playing time.

The second point is ridiculous - you're saying that a strong defence with a fast counter-attack and goals from deeper positions 'won't work anymore', despite that being (broadly speaking) the way Bayern Munich beat Barcelona 7-0 over two legs.

Well if signing Cavani is the only way we can win trophies then we should definitely do it.

People don't want Cavani, this is like saying we don't know how to drive a car really well so we shouldn't get an Audi even though we got money.

People saying 'just pay it' remind me of some spoilt rich cunt princess who has just got her hands on daddy's credit card and is determined to by the most expensive sports car despite her living in roads covered in speed bumps.

First his mother and now his father.....Me and me mum and me dad and me gran and a bucket of Vindaloo.

If his parents said he wanted to join chelsea you would be celebrating mate! And even if its not true the things he said about real makes me think about this transfer.. We should be his dream option and not real!

"He told his family in private" now it's on the internet :getin::D

Jesus, you say something in private and then someone has to go and make it public. Seems to happen a lot nowadays. :halo:

Why the fuck is his mother getting involved in this? This transfer just gets more tedious by the day.
