Tomo 21,751
It matters to me because, don't we currently have a striker problem because we can't replace Torres because no one would pay the wages we decided to give him? Didn't we pay Malouda a few millions last season just so he can train with reserves because again no one would pay him the wages we were giving him? Torres left his boyhood club to sign for Liverpool, taking a pay cut in the process. At Liverpool (mentioned a couple of years back) he turned down an offer from Man.City that would have paid him higher than what he is getting now.Luckily for us Torres value's football over money, he will want to play in next year's world cup and if we tell him he won't get much game time here he will go.Torres may be many things but a mercenary is not one of them. Tomo 21,751
Why is he still here then? Because he sulked after the CL final last year meaning we gave him a silly guarantee he would be number 1 forward, im not 100% because it was a year ago and i have slept since then, but i think he said he was comptemplating leaving before that happened. He had the worst season and a half I've ever seen a player have. You don't think the club wanted to get rid of him if they could?!

wj818 25
I think that he can.He is tall and strong so he can bully the other midfielders.Just watch the last match of everton against city and see how Fellaini overpowered Toure to get the ball.Makelele wasnt and he did just fine. Fellaini plays best when he is further up the field, im not sure about him giving the CDM positon, de Rossi on the otherhand has proven both in international and club level. He also happens to be the right age 29 (previously I thought he was older). IMO, older players are best suited in the CDM position. U really don't need to be bulky if you can anticipate, and older players usually have have gained enough experience to do just tht. And with young players coming up I see him as a more of a short term solution.
ChelseaFanUK 1,014
I believe that's more complicated than you make it sounds, mate.First off, Cavani is one of, if not the best striker in the world right now. Napoli is to small for him right now ; and I do believe that Cavani knows that. He has seen all that has to be seen at Napoli, and now has to move on to a bigger step. It's the right time for him ; he is at his peak and is still "young". If he waits one more year, it could be a case where nobody's longer interested in him, or at least willing to pay over the odds for him. Moreover, to me it appeared that de Laurentis was willing, very willing to sell. Despite what that fan from Napoli was saying again and again (that Napoli didn't want to sell), into my eyes de Laurentis has just acted like he was trying his best to sell Cavani. It's a lifetime chance to sell a player for 70 millions d'euros. So while Cavani has put one foot out of the club on his own ; the Club put his other foot out of the club. And because of this situation (all the stuff I aforementioned), Cavani had to find another club.Unfortunately for him — or not —, the only club willing to meet his buyout-clause is Paris. Like it or not, PSG is a bigger club than Napoli. A bigger club because they have higer ambitions and they have the money and the players to back-up these ambitions. On the one hand, they will offer him way more money. On the second hand, they will offer him a bigger challenge on the sportive aspect. PSG has way more chance to win La Ligue 1 than Napoli to win El Calico — even if La Serie has an higher reputation than the French league, if the arab money keeps pouring in, then the Ligue 1 could be more competitive and attractive than La Seria A in a few years of time. In the Champions League, PSG is also bound to have more success than Napoli ; they have better players and they don't have the fat waiter. Though I am absolutly not convinced by Blanc, but he isn't there to last anyway. So you see, Cavani has to leave, and the only option is PSG.One of. Not the best. RVP, Falcao I'd have over him. I genuinely do not think Cavani "wants" to go to PSG. He just has no other options, correct.

NO so if cavani wants to play at a higher level than league un he simply can refuse and cause a fuss and wait to August 10th

You don't think the club wanted to get rid of him if they could?! If they wanted to sell him but couldn't he would have merely remained in the squad and played a Kaka role, but someone at the club were insistent on giving him a shot at number 1 forward role, the fact he played 63 out our 70 games this season truly says it all. Most players value their career's over money when it comes down to it, if Adebayor took a pay cut to escape his City nightmare i doubt Torres will hesitate to do the same if it's made clear he's not welcome. Mceachran 109
What's our Club's deal with his age? Basically, we have to sign him for multiple years otherwise do this one year contract for old people bullshit? I just hope he doesn't hurt his knee like Romeu (remember him?). NishC300 1,865
Because at 160k/wk he's currently probably the world's highest paid sub.Yes, he can do a job for us but he's 30 and we're giving him a four year deal at 7m per year. Since basically we're not going to re sell him and he won't move until his contract is over because no one will match those wages. We are making a 41m investment (13m fee + 7m times four years). Is the job he's going to do here for the next couple of years worth 41m? For me the answer is NO.Anyway this is all speculation and we don't know what we are offering him or if we even made a bid. I just hope that the reported numbers are false. How come? He's our Captain and Leader. Isn't someone who gives so much to the club worth that? (U can move this bit to the JT Thread if u want)Getting slower won't hinder him too much so hopefully he can do well for us at an older age. Andrea Pirlo's 34 yet he's still rocking! (I'm not comparing DDR to Pirlo but still). Also now that Xabi Alonso has denied he will move to the Premier League (http://www.marca.com/2013/07/08/en/football/real_madrid/1373309923.html)%C2'> we should try and get DDR (ofc if the price is good). Also I don't understand all this hype about the price? I'm sorry but I haven't read too much about FFP so I wonder how will it work? Will it even be implemented?
