OneMoSalah 8,886
Jose's first signing and possibly one of his most reliable signings. Sure he wasn't Cafu but still he could defend and was always reliable. Sad to see him go

Kez 2,727
He was a very important player in jose's first season, reliable & consistent & played a very big role in the title win. Always loved Paulo & will be very sad to see him go, he's been a fantastic servant to the club. Thank you Paulo. End of an era at Chelsea, old guard slowly moving on. English Freak 456
Watching Paulo's speech brought tears to my eyes for the second time this week. A true professional who made his mark at Chelsea not only as a great footballer but as an absolute gentleman that he is. Young players that join us should look up to him just like they do with the likes of Lampard, Drogba etc. This might be slightly off-topic but I feel like writing it somewhere down. We're getting closer to the end of the old guard, aren't we? And it's more obvious and hurting than ever. With Paulo leaving who's still left from the old (Mourinho) days? Cech, Lamps, Terry, Cole, Mikel and Essien, right?! It's unbelievable how fast time flies, really. And there's nothing we can do about it. I know everyone's looking forward to the new generation at this football club (I do too) but there's something inside me dying nonetheless. I'm emotional seeing "just" Paulo saying good bye, I don't even wanna think about how I'll feel about Lamps retiring.Just thinking about not seeing our three legends in Cech, Terry and Lamps in a few years time brings tears to my eyes. Essien and Cole are brilliant players as well. If Mikel leaves, I wouldn't mind.As for Paulo, what a class player on and off the pitch. Would love to see him as a coach someday. Milan 17,957
Juan Mata's blog certainly confirmed Paulo is leaving -That was the best farewell to the League in front of our fans. We did a lap of honour and paid tribute to a great professional who is not staying with us: Paulo Ferreira. Paulinho, it’s been a pleasure to share these two seasons with you, you are an example of professionalism, values, respect, dedication and education; thank you for all the things I learnt from you. You are a phenomenal guy and I wish you the best in this new stage of your life!

Melanicus 5,208
@1:58Q: What are you going to do when you retire?A: I will try to be involved in football...Roman what are you waiting? Bring this role model to the coaching staff with Mourinho. On the serious note, it's really sad to see all those players from old guard leaving and retiring. I guess the new generation is starting, it may be even better than this one, but surely this one will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you Paulo!Maybe in future? TorontoChelsea 4,064
Never got the love for Ferreira. He signed an awful contract with Chelsea and was likely only with the club because nobody else would pay starter wages for a player who wasn't nearly good enough to start. Ferriera had a couple of very good seasons with us, but he was never the reason we won even at his peak. He only started more than 18 games in the Premier League once in his entire Chelsea career. He didn't play in 30 games (which is not a lot) in all competitions since Mourinho left, and was mostly our 3rd choice RB. As for this consummate professional stuff, yeah, he got paid millions of pounds for basically sitting on a bench and doing what little was asked of him without complaining. I'd do it too. We'd all do it. Many many players, indeed, most players, do that for much less money. It hardly makes him special. I like him because because he was a Chelsea player and he seems to be a nice guy but this club legend stuff is just ridiculous. This is not a case of someone like Terry or Zola who was central to a team's identity and success for an extended period. This is not like Essien who was a world-class player for a few years before losing it. This is not even like Malouda who was an amazing player, maybe our best, for a couple of years before flaming out. Ferriera was by and large was a peripheral player that just happened to stay at Chelsea for a long time because we signed him to a bad contract. What about some admiration to his loyalty, proffesionalism ? He is a great role model for any player. Even some of the players praised him for it. (Mata, Lamps..) He was a good bloke who was always prepared to do a job for the team, and was always very good with the fans. He wasn't flash, he wasn't spectacular but he was someone you could rely on week-in and week-out to give EVERYTHING for the shirt.No-one attached to the club had a bad word to say about him and he never sought the spotlight or attracted negative attention. He just turned up, did his job and represented this club well. That's why there's love for the guy. yuvala, Amblève., The Skipper and 2 others
