If he shown growth in defending and awarness he can get to CB spot, given we are leaking left and right. That said he was suspect defending all season long.

I don’t think performances in this Chelsea team + out of position is any measure of his ability. He’s been called up to England for a reason. There’s a potential top CB in the league by age 24-25 imo

Yep.

Think he needs taken out the team just to sort of take him out the firing line but that wont happen to Marc & Ben are fit

Get Alonso in, he will also want Wirtz in, so another win for us.

Exactly....and then you add on the fact that both Liverpool and City were keen on getting him in the previous transfer window.

Hopefully for his sake Chilwell/Cucurella get fit and he can focus on being a good CB and learning from Silva as much as possible.

I agree he is top talent, but he needs to make most of his play time. Obviously its not ideal for him, being out of position in wrecking team but he needs to step up. He needs to pick up mentaly and step up as one of the leaders in this team because we lack them. Its great opportunity for him.

I think he would be next Van Dijk in Pool side for example. He just needs to show he wants to be here, fight for team and do the best he can.

Has anyone thought that maybe the hesitant and underwhelming performances from the players may be more due to the lack of clear instructions and guidance from the management? The criticism that came out from Potch's time at PSG was that he never ran any tactical drills.

It's often said that a lot of teams rehearse patterns of play, on and off the ball, over and over again so each player knows where their teammates are in any given situation. We often see this when teams put us under severe pressure pressing us when we try to play out from the back. It looks like the Chelsea players are unsure of whet they are doing, and that they're making it up as they go along. It's also noticeable when you see Chelsea trying to break down a low block, with very little options open to the player on the ball apart from a safe pass backwards or sideways.

I'm happy to cut the players some slack because the truth probably is that we have no idea how good these players are until we see them in cohesive team that's set up to take advantage of their strengths.

Nothing would make me happier if Potch was to prove me wrong and turn Chelsea around, but the next few games against Fulham, Villa and Middlesbrough seem to be make or break time.

Yet he was meticulously known for running tactical drills and attacking patterns at Espanyol, Southampton & Spurs. PSG was a weird one for him, that front 3 not pressing, all superstars in their own right.

I was more than happy to ignore the criticisms of Potch on his appointment for the reasons that you gave. After all, apart from PSG, his body of work was excellent.  Again the lack of team cohesion at the beginning of the season never bothered me too much, it's expectable that it would take a time to turn around last seasons mess.

My issue is the lack of progress with the cohesion, I can't remember the last time I went into a Chelsea game confident and excited, because I just can't seem to see what the team are trying to do. It's no fun when the best you can expect is to watch Chelsea stumbling through games time and time again, even the teams of Hoddle, and Guillit played with a swagger and were enjoyable to watch.

So it turns out Enzo, Caicedo and Colwill are all unhappy with Potchs lack of instruction and tactical briefing.

Wouldn't be surprising considering Caicedo had better tactical instructions at Brighton, Enzo was used far better at Benfica and I doubt Colwill expected to be playing LB this season.

I do question what Poch has actually changed compared to say Potter or Lampard as results wise we're still a mid-table club....and we still play like a mid table club.  There is ZERO fear factor with the current set of players and teams know that we'll likely buckle under the pressure or give up if they get that 1-0 lead against us.

The most concerning part is that he doesn't seem to know how to get the best out of Enzo & Caicedo in midfield.

Real Madrid extends Carlo Ancelotti, giving Bayern Munich a free run at Xabi Alonso

Of course, Leverkusen won't like this one bit.

This just looks so much more coherent than what we do at the moment. I like this breakdown. I swear we are the only "big" team that doesn't play in triangles and diamond pass formations, it's all individual work and back passing. Also give this account a follow, great breakdown of some of the best coaches and player tactics.
