Graham Potter Thread

I 'v been looking at things from a different angle.

Potter is unpopular because the club dismissed Tuchel in order to hire him and Thomas Tuchel was an icon.
It's unfair for two reasons: a) It's not Potter's fault that the Chelsea board sacked Tuchel, b) the problems we see now existed in Tuchel days as well.
Chelsea cannot score goals with the fluency of ages past (Lamps-Didier, Diego-Hazard) but were they doing much better last year ?

Surprisingly the problem in the scoring department to an extent disappears against continental opposition, or it looks that way from several results.
This may be because the continental teams are not marking people man to man as hard as the premiership teams and this suits the Chelsea forwards.
But overall there is a problem and although Potter seemingly has no solution it's not HIS problem. It's a problem he inherited.

The way I see it is that the Chelsea attackers are absolutely clueless when they have to play the ball in the vicinity of the semicirlce, in the opponents half.
All they can do is lose the ball and hence they are unable to split defenses and create chances.

Some other big teams like Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid do not have the same problem and I will of course confront anyone who says to to me "how dare you compare PSG and RM with Chelsea ?".
Against whom am I supposed to compare Chelsea, the champions of Europe only two years ago ? Everton or Notts Forest ?

So we don't have good enough players in this part of the pitch.
Havertz has no business playing there, Sterling little things, Pulisic-Ziyech-Aube no way. Joao Felix looks like an improvement and about Mudryk I don't know if he is going to shine but in his first four weeks with the club he has n't. Lukaku and Werner who are gone now were similarly problematic.

I don't know what Boehly plans for next summer but for now those players I mentioned will stay the same if we bring tomorrow Zidane, Pochetiino, Unay Emery or anyone else like that.

Having said all that, I 'm not impressed by Graham Potter. It's a gordian knot he has to solve but gordian knot or whatever he has n't solved it.
But I think the situation is best described like this: We don't at this moment have a forward line worthy of the history of the club. This is the real problem.

Credit where credit is due, high octane play like today suits this team, but it's down to the players to do that and get past the mental block of not scoring during pressure then flattening or going into a shell when we concede, it's a process and I'll say it again, we're used to the elite mentality, or having younger players coming into our team with captains of national teams getting changed next to them day in day out, we don't have that, we don't have those big players. The coach certainly does his part and it must be difficult to have Graham, who is a sound chap, trying to get you up for a big game.

Just watched his BT sport interview and he looks like a rabbit in headlights, like a fan of another club who has been invited along for the day. I said to myself "what a shame" because I am genuinely happy for him tonight, whatever the injuries etc Dortmund are the form team in Europe and we utterly schooled them.

I want him to succeed, do I think he will? No, why? We are Chelsea, it's different here, it's elite, he should have gone to Spurs, in my opinion.

He compares himself with Arteta but can we see him doing what Arteta did today? I don't think so, he is too nice for that.

This is what top class managers do. Arteta introduced today ESR in mid first half for injured Trossard. He played horrible and in minute 69 he was replaced for Nelson who got minute later assist and winner goal in injury time. Pure masterclass.

Not sure how he is too nice to do that, when he literally did this with Aubameyang against City. It didn't work, but he did it. So nothing to do with niceness.

Anyway I do absolutely believe he will turn this around if given the time. Just like Arteta did. I said this a week ago and two weeks ago as well, and I dont think I am changing my mind any time soon.

We scraped two wins, Potter GOAT, all is forgiven, we have zero problems, who cares we are closer to relegation than Europe, hey, we've had a lucky tap-in against Leeds and beat Dortumund without key players, glory is here!

Yeah definitely strange how easy people forget, even last night his subs we're poor. He should honestly thank Tuchel because half of the team already knew this system. My biggest worry is him playing the likes of Ziyech and Pulisic when they we're one foot out the door and out of our plans.

Anyways he is probably seeing out the season now, hope we at least replace him before the new season starts, hate to know such a talented squad is being wasted on this limited coach but least the transfer activity lately has been promising, hope we follow this up in the summer.

Players clearly love Potter and are all behind him. Silva, James and now Kai quotes. They fought for him and saved his job.

Do you have the Silva quote?

Makes sense whey Kai would speak highly of Potter. He always picks him, lol.

Anyway quotes aside, any upturn in form means Potter buys himself more time, and rightly so.

Let's just hope it wasn't another flash in the pan.

The good thing is we're still in the CL just a little bit longer.

I'm pretty sure all these players defending him is just Todd asking the players to side by him and give him support. For example Thiago's wife made it sound like Potter is not good enough.

We played good against Milan and Dortmund I think players simply raise the intensity and desire considering it's the Champions League if not here where. His next 3 matches are Leicester, Everton and Aston Villa he should be winning all of them without much fuss and will be much more telling what is happening.

Tell me you know nothing about football, without telling me you know nothing about football.

So we are using WAGS comments now to push your agenda 🤣🤣 Maybe we should get Victoria Beckham in as next manager

Not sure what's so funny, you think his wife doesn't know what his husband's opinion of Potter is if she decides to like posts about Potter not being good enough or you think Thiago wouldn't tell her to be quiet if he had a different opinion? I don't like Potter but I have no agenda against him it's just that it's obvious he isn't good enough and signs around the players say the same no matter what PR interviews they give.

Also comparing the average WAG to his wife he is dating since he was 18 years old, I'm pretty sure they are very close.
