Where would he even go that is warm and can afford him? Not many options these days outside of PL if you want money. I mean, he probably could make a nice career for himself in warm California if he really wants... Or in Saudi. He was exposed because he ended up playing 25+ games, if he had played say 5 games and a few cup appearances (just like any other team's backup GK), he would have been fine.
