Pizy 19,381
Ivan Toney is nowhere near an £80m striker and we’d be insane to pay that. Even in our current era of dramatically overpaying for players that would be crazy. Think £45-50m for an established English striker would be fair. But for £80m you should be looking at a truly special footballer which Toney ain’t. mkh and Norfolkblue1961

Teams like Villa, Brighton and West Ham would be disappointed if they finish 8th or 9th tbh. All for it but not for 80m... he may be worth that without the ban but with it being a factor there needs to be a discount. £80m is a shit tonne for a player who turns 29 in the winter of next season Edited August 25, 2023 by Vesper mkh

Other than the fact that he will take loan slot it's actually quite good business for us. I am surprised Roma is able to afford his wages. However their option as striker is Belotti, so they must be desperate Edited August 25, 2023 by ulvhedin mkh

So I guess Jose and their owners have decided that rather than going out and buying a new striker for tens of millions, the loan fee + his huge wages are still cheaper than that. Just hope he performs well enough for them or someone else to finally take him off our books for good this time next summer. Because if he fucks up at Roma I don’t know what we’re gonna do. Mhsc 1,160
Ok so it is actually a loan in the region of what I was saying, i.e. a loan with a decent fee and all wages covered - that is the only circumstance I could see the logic in us changing our stance. It might be sensible, if he has even just an average year the transfer value we would hope for will still be at least as high as it is today, given that we've been talking about selling him for basically peanuts for his level. If he has a good year, might get even more for him next year + another year of ammortization done. bigbluewillie, Norfolkblue1961 and xPetrCechx
MoroccanBlue 5,408
It's a better deal the what Inter offered for him last summer. Decent fee coming in and wages covered. xPetrCechx
