They would probably keep raising the price and either settle for the 90 million from Chelsea in the end or sell to a new bidder - if one turned up.
So in the end it was L'pool.
For me it was strange that we offered 90 and shied away from 10 more, but whatever happened it's no use crying over spilled milk.
It was a mistake perhaps to go for Lavia and not allow Liverpool to get him and spend their budget but again could n't somebody else turn up ?
Essentially we were looking for a new Kante so if Tyler or Lavia are not up to this standard we ought to look someplace else now and forget about Caicedo.

we need to be going around to every big club that’s got a top DM and offering a mega price even if they aren’t technically “available.” Make them say no or make the player say no.

Go to Inter and make an offer for Barella. Go to Bayern and offer for Kimmich. Go to Madrid and offer for Tcho.

Make these clubs say no to £100m when they aren’t doing nearly as well financially as top PL clubs are.

agree

Lavia on second thought should be avoided, we should just get palhinha or Fiorentino luis for the double pivot.

BIG problem

João Palhinha

and Fulham want insane money  (£90m!!!)

and he only has only one more sub 30yo season after this one

I just can’t be too upset at missing out on Caceido. There have been far better players move for less.

He is 70 percent the player Kante is and going for that much. I dunno. Not fussed. He isn’t a generational type player.

Stop gap - or maybe one of the young guys we have come on well this season.

People talk bout us needing a new kante but for me i'd settle for a prime Matic or  Makalele type if we gonna persist with the double pivot.even Kante wasnt ideal for that role, don't really want someone chasing the ball like a spaniel, want someone to sit and guard, sniff out danger and snuff it out. Doesn't even need to be a tackle machine to be an effective DM. Blocking passing lanes is a skill that isnt shown on a stat sheet but important all the same.

We got Adams for 90 million less.

He makes more tackles and more progressive passes on the field.

Their aerial and ground success is pretty much identical, as well as interceptions and clearances.

I’m just not that fussed… people are acting as if we have lost out on prime Hazard here.

I think there will be 2-3 players in the same vein as Caceido sooner than later in the EPL. Pretty confident we have some talent in our team in the middle that will end up in the same breathe.

Ok ok, people deluding themselves here, and saying Caiceido isn't that good, that he is not generational, well he is, insane talent and we messed up.

We move on, but extremely disappointing from our board to let our number 1 target go, and for an extra ~15M£. Man am i pissed..

True, they’re very weak defensively at both fullback positions. And unless they sign a new LCB they’re fucked if VVD gets injured again.

here is what they have to choose from

the market is so so small for decent ones who can play NOW

bold are the only ones I rate

only 4, and one is basically impossible

Alessandro Bastoni         crazy hard pull
Nico Schlotterbeck
Piero Hincapié
Gonçalo Inácio

Max Kilman
Presnel Kimpembe  (Achilles tendon rupture)
Castello Lukeba     only 20yo, massive dice roll
Strahinja Pavlovic
David Hancko
Aymeric Laporte
Facundo Medina
Marcos Senesi
Arthur Theate
Alessio Romagnoli
David Carmo
Morato
Abdou Diallo

I wonder why we decided to put a bid in for Lavia and prod FSG, odd. I actually don’t think they have the £110m to spend in terms of deal structure that we heard Brighton were banging on about ie. They wanted £90m if it was upfront and £100m over spread.

Anyway, I could see Liverpool pulling out of this deal, just another tactic for Sunday’s game if I’m honest. If they did sign him then it’s a huge lesson for any player going to Brighton, Kudus.

110m pounds is fucking crazy money for a dmc.

i would rather pay 50m pounds for lavia than 110m for caicedo.

I agree

what pisses me off is that we ended up bidding the price that was the price all along

£100m

BUT

we waited well over a month to do it

and thus lost him

we look like bitches as we caved in totally and still LOST THE PLAYER

we could have had him wrapped up in June 🤬

£110M that is a LOT of money... even more than Enzo.. who we bought not even a year ago, people seem to forget that.. Yes it was a bit frustrating that we were chasing him for months only to lose out, but who would have guessed that somebody would pay more than £90M for him. The board was just trying to get their money's worth and I can see why they choose to hold off on the £100M bid, tbh for me I would have not even got past the £85M mark as I thought that that was a fair and realistic price for him. Fair play to Brighton they got their price. We move on.

we NEVER should have bid £100m on the last day

I would have fully accepted that we simply would not go over 80m or 85m or even 90m quid

we now look like country bumpkins, like rubes (as the yanks say)

This all day. This is the most infuriating part, If you had a valuation and stuck to it ok fair play maybe they have a plan in check but no went full desperate in the last second and put the bid anyways just to lose the player anyways.
