Starting to get concerned that there's a lot of talk ramping up again about all sorts of positions except midfield which remains absolutely critical to get sorted out and revamped. Think we should go all in, if a WC CB does become available though. Silva will be on his way out (surprise he had been able to start so many matches), Koulibaly looks like an injury hampered, shot player, and there are concerns with Fofana too. We need at least one good guaranteed starter of a center back like we had with Rudiger. Midfield buys are a no brainer. Even with a CB target. If nothing has been agreed by the end of the season, we would need to look at moving him on with a year left. The problem I see with his contract situation is he's likely looking at James' contract as a measuring stick for his own. I don't think he should be paid as much as that. He deserves a significant bump in pay but I'm not sure he should be at the very top of the pay scale here. I'd rather have him than not here 100% but on the same token, I don't think he should just be a guaranteed starter which he seems to be at the moment. Not sure what Potter's plans are moving forward. I think Mount is better suited in a deeper role in a midfield 3, which allows then 3 attackers ahead of him, and he can then fill into those 3 attackers sometimes if needed. I agree with your assessment on Mount, but it's a tricky situation and probably a frustrating one for him too. He was voted player of the year 2 seasons in a row, and must be wondering what more he needs to do be warrant the same contract Reece James got. But it's down to him to also go up another level especially in terms of consistency. He cannot afford to turn up for one game and recede into the background for the next 2 at this level. chelsea_4_eva 1,182
Regarding Mount, right now he is a level or sometimes 2 under Reece hence why I don't think we will offer him close to what we offered Reece. Mount also needs to reflect on this and work on his game. Tbh Reece is just different gravy.

Even last week with Arsenal in full control he was invisible. Smith Rowe looks comfortably better from what I've seen. He definitely ghosts. Mount also needs to reflect on this and work on his game. Tbh Reece is just different gravy. People say Mount is not on his level this season but I dont see any difference 4 seasons now. For example last season he scored in one game from beginning of the season till December 1st. so almost 4 months and that was against worst team in the league Norwich. This season again, scored in just one game and that was gift from AV defense and freekick. He is playing as one of front 3 players. People use this argument that he is our POTY but these people who voted him are to blame for this contract situation now. He thinks he is better than he is because of things like this. Last season we played 6 comps and he pretty much did not do anything in 5 of them. In fact he is number one reason we lost EPL and FA Cup finals. In PL he scored 11 goals but if you look deeper you will see that just one came against teams higher than 15th place on table. So he was nowhere near good last season but some people thought he deserved POTY. And now he is probably using this argument for new contract but since there are problems in negotiations I am happy that some people in board see more realistic picture. If he thinks he will attract interest from other big teams he is very deluded. Teams like Everton, AV will come at best for him. Every time we are discussing Mount I feel I am in minority with my opinion. But when I read comments in news like this I see that my opinion on Mount is most common among football fans. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11422537/Mason-Mount-contract-talks-reach-stalemate-18-months-left-Chelsea-deal.html#comments

There are other elements that he can bring but ultimately his goals and assists aren't enough for us to be challenging consistently, like the rest of our attackers. He should be playing in midfield. It's as simple as that. His game suits being a 'connector' between midfield and attack as he's intelligent and adept at finding pockets of space, even when a game looks congested. In a midfield three, he'd still be given some licence to attack and use his work rate and natural fitness to get up and down the pitch. I understand 2, 3, 4 years ago playing him in a role further forward but he's not some scrawny little kid anymore; he's combative enough to handle himself in the midfield. But if we're talking a Chelsea side that operates with only 3 attackers and Mount is one of them, I don't believe that is sustainable unless he starts channelling an inner Lampard and can get 15-20 goals and 15-20 assists consistently every season.
