Mount also needs to reflect on this and work on his game. Tbh Reece is just different gravy. People say Mount is not on his level this season but I dont see any difference 4 seasons now. For example last season he scored in one game from beginning of the season till December 1st. so almost 4 months and that was against worst team in the league Norwich. This season again, scored in just one game and that was gift from AV defense and freekick. He is playing as one of front 3 players. People use this argument that he is our POTY but these people who voted him are to blame for this contract situation now. He thinks he is better than he is because of things like this. Last season we played 6 comps and he pretty much did not do anything in 5 of them. In fact he is number one reason we lost EPL and FA Cup finals. In PL he scored 11 goals but if you look deeper you will see that just one came against teams higher than 15th place on table. So he was nowhere near good last season but some people thought he deserved POTY. And now he is probably using this argument for new contract but since there are problems in negotiations I am happy that some people in board see more realistic picture. If he thinks he will attract interest from other big teams he is very deluded. Teams like Everton, AV will come at best for him. Every time we are discussing Mount I feel I am in minority with my opinion. But when I read comments in news like this I see that my opinion on Mount is most common among football fans. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11422537/Mason-Mount-contract-talks-reach-stalemate-18-months-left-Chelsea-deal.html#comments

There are other elements that he can bring but ultimately his goals and assists aren't enough for us to be challenging consistently, like the rest of our attackers. He should be playing in midfield. It's as simple as that. His game suits being a 'connector' between midfield and attack as he's intelligent and adept at finding pockets of space, even when a game looks congested. In a midfield three, he'd still be given some licence to attack and use his work rate and natural fitness to get up and down the pitch. I understand 2, 3, 4 years ago playing him in a role further forward but he's not some scrawny little kid anymore; he's combative enough to handle himself in the midfield. But if we're talking a Chelsea side that operates with only 3 attackers and Mount is one of them, I don't believe that is sustainable unless he starts channelling an inner Lampard and can get 15-20 goals and 15-20 assists consistently every season. ZAPHOD2319 4,954
Mount in the midfield is where he should be. His relentless motor serves him best there. I also love that his first move when receiving the ball is to move it forward. Blue Armour and Superblue 1

Vesper 31,108
Top transfer values for non-big-5 U25 players https://www.football-observatory.com/IMG/sites/b5wp/2022/wp396/en/ The 396th CIES Football Weekly Post presents the 100 players outside the big-5 who have not yet turned 25 with the highest estimated transfer value. Three players stand out with values of around €60 million: Benfica’s Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández, PSV Eindhoven’s Dutch striker Cody Gakpo and Porto’s Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa. Only one other player outside the big-5 has an estimated value of more than €50 million: Portuguese centre back Gonçalo Inacio (Sporting CP). The highest transfer values for footballers playing outside of Europe were recorded for Brazilians: Yuri Alberto (Corinthians, €30m), Danilo Oliveira (Palmeiras, €29m) and Marcos Leonardo (Santos, €28m). Fifteen leagues are represented in the top 100, with a maximum of 21 players for the Dutch Eredivisie. The values were estimated on the basis of a statistical model developed by the CIES Football Observatory research team from almost 5,000 paid transfers concluded over the last decade. A scientific article explaining the approach is available in open access. Estimates for more than 15,000 players from about 50 leagues worldwide are available through a paying platform. Thor 2,819
Fofana is injured, and KK will look better once we have some midfield cover. For as much as great defenders are great defenders, they also need a decent midfield. Not saying KK is what he was a while back, but he still can be decent. bigbluewillie

(I'm pretty sure Joe Shields for example has gardening leave with Southampton to fulfil first). It means that he has a few weeks now to have those discussions with the board, Potter, Macauley, etc to see if any work could and should be done in January. As head of recruitment at Brighton it's not like he won't have been doing work in recent weeks/months on scouting and recruitment at them. The goalposts may change coming here, but he's been recruited off the back of his work at Brighton so maybe he has a couple of gems up his sleeve that he was eyeing up when at Brighton that would be just as ideal here at Chelsea. mkh

May? It’s a huge change for him. The lists he worked with at Brighton aren’t the same he will be working with at Chelsea. Same goes with agents and scouts. another huge bet and immediate downgrade from what we had not long ago. silver lining is that at least it will be a paid professional doing this work once again. Are we turning into Brighton? 😆

Who did we have not long ago? One of the big criticisms of Roman's era was not putting this type of team together.
