I swear they rip you off once they hear Chelsea's bidding Transfer fee inflation over the last 24 months is staggering. It seems that the price to any top club, for any player under 28 with more than a year remaining on his contract, starts at £60m these days. In that context £30m-£35m seems positively reasonable but of course it's a ludicrous amount of money. The only way we can avoid getting caught in the overspending trap is to walk away but when we do that the board gets screamed at. With Cucurella £ 50m, Gvardiol/Fofana 70m, Dumfries/Walker Peters 30m, Slonina, 12m - total spending goes to £ 240m + and nearly 200m of it on defence. Last season we saw an inexperienced Chalobah prone to errors at the latter end of the season. We saw arguably the worst CB to ever put on a Chelsea kit in Sarr who was a calamity waiting to happen. We saw Azpilicueta prone to errors towards the latter end of the season given he can't keep up with the pace of the game anymore. We saw Alonso being Alonso whilst Chilwell was out of the esason. We saw James overplayed and injury stricken. For me, this has to happen. Boycie, Vesper, Fernando and 1 other
Superblue 6,372
If the prices are comparable, which is the better target Dumfries or Walker-Peters?
Pizy 18,897
Just feels like we can find a quality backup RWB for a hell of a lot less than £30-35m.

I really hoped that the covid situation and playing games for such a long period behind closed doors would go some way to correcting the transfer market and bringing prices down but like you said it's gone the other way and unfortunately teams continue to be prepared to spend the money. Not sure if there is anyone realistically available in attack that improves us. De Jong is a possibility but obviously we are not going to address everything in one window. Best to address the actual backbone of our system. Strike
Pizy 18,897
Feels like we’re going the City route of having starting quality players on our bench at every position which would be nice if we can pull all these moves off. Except City have the ability to rotate their whole attack without a substantial drop in quality whereas we can’t.
