Logic would say you ride the in form player, but the likes of VVD and Matip are at their best against big, powerful strikers. The main reason Lukaku has been so effective these last games is because he has been able to bully the CB’s. He pins them and is able to receive the ball at his feet, hold it up, and then pass it off. Those are the types of situations that VVD is nearly unstoppable in. Going for a highly mobile, super quick forward line might be best. Werner on one flank and Mount towards the other trying to force Trent and Robertson back with Havertz’s movement up top. My biggest fear by far is that Tuchel will opt for the Azpi as the wingback with James as the RCB shit again. If we do that it’s going to be awful to watch.
