How do you compare Thiago Silva who is active to Baresi who played in the 1980-90s? Based on what? that's a cherry-pick Maldini played until 2009 and Nesta until 2014 and Baresi, a 3 time CL/EC winner and 2 time world champion, was playing in what was the toughest league on the planet for most of his career, and on some of the best teams ever in football history Thiago is a superb CB, on of the top 15 (probably top 10) in last the last 20 years, but I would take any of those 3 over him

It’s like comparing Messi to Maradona. The latter ruled football with big belly while doing coke, ofc nowadays it can’t happen. Have to put everything in context. killer1257
MoroccanBlue 5,382
His career is tarnished considering he spent his prime years at PSG.  He’d be valued higher had he moved to England after Milan.

You could make an argument about Baresi, but Nesta and Maldini already played in the modern game. Are you also going to say the likes of Stam, Carvalho, Ferdinand, Vidic, Cannavaro, Lucio, and Puyol wouldn't have half the impact today? Magic Lamps 11,692
He looks sharp af. Two outstanding PL performances back to back. He was out against Spurs fastest player - son- and shepherd him wide. For the goal he comfortably outjumped Ali a player 5cm taller and 13 years younger . Maybe he even has another world class year in him. Surely still has the fitness
Strike 7,489
Andreas will have to wait before he becomes first choice. We are seeing one of the all time greats here still schooling much faster attackers
nyikolajevics 2,700
If he keeps performing this well, maybe should consider renew his contract for one more year. When healthy, still outstanding. His knowledge and vision is still unique, I don’t see why not.
NikkiCFC 8,324
I agree. And with World Cup in winter next year he would be also open to it I think. nyikolajevics
Simon1991 233
I can't remember seeing another central defender with that much composure on the ball, he is simply outstanding. If only we had signed him a few years before.
robsblubot 3,595
Could not cope with the quickness of city players. Hope it’s just early season form, but looked his age against city, I have to say. you know reading some posts today made me convinced I literally watched a different game. We actually played way better than city instead of been pinned down in our own half for most of the match. And we actually won! Silly me again. NikkiCFC 8,324
Has a dream of retirement in Fluminense. Unfortunately I can see him leaving in the summer which was always expected tbh when he arrived. With Rudi and Chris contract situation so many question marks over our defense.
Superblue 6,372
Some rumours he wants to stay in Europe one more season so would make sense for us to keep him here, even more so with question marks over a number of defender's futures. PSG must be kicking themselves every day that they gift wrapped Silva and then Tuchel to us. Strike and Hermione 1
