Dion 2,476
I have mixed feelings about this. I don't see exactly where Drogba fits or what he brings to the table. Of course he's good in the air. But so is Costa, even if not as good as Didier. Maybe we could use him in the last minutes of a game to improve our chances in set pieces and to defend better, but aside from that he doesn't really improve us. And having Didier also means less chances for Lukaku and Ba (fuck Torres who cares about him).I'll always be happy to see Drogba on the pitch but I'm also afraid that if he plays too poorly or something bad happens (like missing some important sitter) it may stain his legacy. Popular Post! Barbara 15,149 Posted July 26, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted July 26, 2014 Well, it's nearly 2am, I arrive home to this news. I've spent the whole day out and I had no idea what was going on.Anyhoo, I was giving it some consideration... we need someone like him in the dressing room. This is the guy that fires you up from the the dressing room, from the bench and the moment he enters the pitch. Also he can continue from where Eto'o stopped being someone else to help Eden Hazard fulfill his potential. I think Eto'o's presence was crucial for Eden last year and I think Didier's can make wonders for him. Those guys have the kind of personality that Eden needs to have around him and learn from. I hope he helps him as much as Samu did.I don't think what he's done for us is at stake. This idea some have that he will tarnish and lose the perfect career he had with us is crazy imo. What could he do to even stain what he's done? Absolutely nothing. If he misses an important penalty it won't undo what's done. I don't think as a striker he adds that much. I think he adds a bit less than Eto'o because his legs seem more tired... but he's still a beast in the air and that's something Samu didn't offer for us. So maybe he could still be useful as a striker in the pitch, but his impact in the squad, in the dressing room, in the bench and in our hearts is nearly immeasurable.I wasn't fond of this, but now that the deal is done I'm holding onto the positives. If this somehow gets Torres out of Stamford Bridge for good, that's is the deal of the century. I think José is also targeting on Didier to mentor Lukaku in addition to Eden. I don't see Romelu leaving for a decision made by the club. Maybe he decides to go somewhere else, but he should know having a mentor such as Didier Drogba is invaluable. Popular Post! Shane 2,275 Posted July 26, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted July 26, 2014 People can say he should have left us with his last kick of the ball winning us the Champions League, well he's back now, and who's to say it won't happen again?Decent man to bring in when we're looking for a goal and need someone in the air. I'll go bonkers if he gets a late winner this season, and he is most defiantly going on the back of my shirt. petre.ispirescu, The only place to be, Hybrid Angel and 2 others

I have mixed feelings about the move too but not about his legacy. He shall forever be the man who made Munich; it's set in stone and cannot be budged or stained no matter what happens from here on ... just like Mourinho shall forever be the one who delivered the first league title in 50 years regardless of anything post that event. BleedsBlue 1,549
It will take some time for him to readapt to the league and form an understanding with the midfielders. So. I won't expect an immediate impact. Also expectations should not be high because he will primarily be used as a squad player. The intention is to give Costa and Lukaku a lot of match time as they are our future.

Right now, Drogba is the second best finisher at the club (behind Costa, although 8-10 yards out it's probably very close), he's the strongest with his back to goal, he's probably the second best in the air and he's also a damn good penalty and free kick taker (in fact he's probably our best free-kick taker now...maybe Oscar is better, but it's close).Of course he's lost a lot of that pace, he probably can't go for 90 minutes and he won't be number one but there were games last season where we needed someone like him against teams we were struggling to break down. There will be plenty of games where we're 2-0 up after 60 minutes and Lukaku can get game time or even start against some teams, but there will also be games where we need something different from what Costa or Lukaku offers us. I wanted us to get Mandzukic because of his style of football, but Didier offers the closest thing to that still. He's not going to do a Barcelona-type job on teams because I don't think he has it in him anymore, but if you want a presence in the 12 yard box whilst Luis, Azpi, Willian and Hazard are whipping balls in then I still think teams have something to fear from him. The_Flash 1,144
It a great it's just a shame it didn't happen last year as Jose would have had a dream return as we would have won the league with him. We almost did it without a striker.

Ollie 4,400
This is madness really, the thought of seeing Drogba playing for us again under Mourinho is something beyond my wildest dreams. And i thought us signing Cesc Fabregas was crazy enough. I do however think it's a pretty pointless signing and i would've preferred Drogba's last touch to have stayed that pen in Munich but i still cannot wait to see him play for us again. I don't care what anyone says.... Didier Drogba is the greatest striker EVER to play for this club. Popular Post! Styles 9,790 Posted July 26, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted July 26, 2014 Definitely delighted that he's back. I think it was @remains of the day who said a while back that you need players in the dressing room who have an affinity for the club and who can transmit their passion for the shirt over to new signings. I'm absolutely in agreement with that, but at the same time I wonder how Drogba's presence is going to affect Costa. We all know how much of a strong personality Didi has. On the plus side that's a great thing because of the leadership he brings but on the down side it makes it very hard for another striker to succeed in his shadow. I really hate to be that person, you know the one who pisses on everyone's parade? But I think people should be cognizant of the knock-on effect that bringing back such a strong personality, who the fans idolize, might have. Who knows though, maybe it might be better for Costa as it will remove some of the pressure and attention from him...Mourinho spoke about Costa yesterday and said:“He is ready. He doesn’t need a mentor. He is a made player - an end product, a complete striker. A mature guy who told me he’s here thanks to his legs and to his heart - he has had to fight for everything."Costa isn't soft. He may not be a huge success here - I have my own doubts about his quality - but I'm confident he will put up a much bigger fight than somebody like Torres ever has. You can't have the journey Costa has had in football and not be mentally strong. I really doubt Drogba's return has any affect on him at all.
